In the last 41 years that Yash Raj Films’ has been in the business, the production – distribution house has never distributed a film produced by another banner (except Dharma Productions).
All that ‘could’ change with Shahrukh Khan’s upcoming ‘Happy New Year’ which is scheduled to release during Diwali this year.
While Fox Star Studios and Eros International were considered to be the favourites to bag the theatrical rights of the much-awaited film, the buzz in the industry is that SRK and Aditya Chopra recently met and have decided to work together to distribute the film both in India and in the overseas markets.
Directed by Farah Khan, Happy New Year also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan and Boman Irani. The poster of the film was revealed in the first week of January.
T-Series has acquired the music rights of the film.

@mithaiwala only 1 cherry out of 5 for this comment, you are absolutely right about yrf record but i don’t know how and why you not noticed the same, srk’s Darr to Jthj, srk only worked in CDI which was a little known director and his first film with srk, srk only worked with two director either yash ji and Aadi while others actor been tested with new director, all of srk films having romantic feel except Cdi(where Salman is the first choice for that role) so srk definitely need yrf but yrf still giving chance to new directors and actor after Darr happen and before srk arrived, how can you expect that kunal kohli,shaad ali,sanjay gadhvi etc can give 100% success record in that banner, other thing before darr there you got yash ji directed film in every 2 year but after darr, he did dtph in 1997,Vz in 2004, jthj in 2012 see the gap, Aadi did Ddlj in 1995,mohabbatein in 2000 and Rab ne in 2008, so if someone taking so much time for his next film plus the man is talented than chances of failure become less.
@mithaiwala definitely Baazigar was a successful film on its own but do you know even after baazigar,darr srk had series of flop, his KHKN was average grosser not a hit, KA was multistarer and other hero is someone who just given All time grosser Hahk 1 year before, 1996 was complete failure of srk, even you noticed filmography of srk you will find till 2009 srk got success only those years in which he had release either with yrf or dharma, Even with Dharma kjo testing other actor with new director other than him but whenever srk got chance with Kjo except Khnh which was hit not a bb or superhit. You should also think that whenever they take srk when their best directing the film. And the reason is quite simple they sticking for romantic and family melodrama and srk was perfect for that. When they tasted different with Kank and MNIK film underperformed in domestic level but huge in overseas as both film completely shooted in Us. You can’t deny man Yrf and Dharma importance in srk career.

Did any of movie were directed by lesser known director, farhan dch avg grosser still known as his finest work, while SLB still known because of Hum dil de chuke sanam semi hit. Srk tried with Paheli(remake of Duvidha),asoka,Dil se with less known director of bollywood that time and result is flop,doesn’t mean you call them classic or what but movie was boxoffice failure.Deewana,ka etc are multistarrer which have the actors who can pull crowd in theatres with they starpower that time.
