Worrying signs for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale in some circuits

There are protests at a few places, a few shows have been cancelled and few others have been disrupted. The film hasn’t even got the kind of release it deserves, but there are worrying signs for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale at centres where it opened well on Friday.

In cities like Bangalore and Mangalore, Dilwale has shown a drop in business, while Bajirao Mastani has picked up by 30-40%. The gap has also narrowed down in North India, where Dilwale was expected to dominate. These are ominous signs, because centres like these don’t usually drop on Saturday.

In the Maharashtra state, it’s a different story altogether. Bajirao Mastani is already leading at several multiplexes in cities like Mumbai and Pune. On Sunday, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is almost certain to surpass the Rohit Shetty directed film and could do so by a decent margin.

At multiplexes, there was very little to choose between the two films on Saturday. It was on this day that both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani were expected to show growth in the range of 10-15%. Bajirao Mastani has exceeded expectations with 20% growth, while Dilwale remained at around the same level as Friday.

There is a good chance that Bajirao Mastani could match the collections of Dilwale on Sunday and if that happens, the writing will be on the wall.

  • Biggest bollywood openning collections for overseas.
    1. Dilwale 22 crore
    2. CE 21 crore
    3. Dhoom 3 20crore
    4. HNY 18 crore
Thats the power srk. You indian people don’t know the value of srk. Srk is the proud of India.

  • Salman was defeated many times. He had lots of flop in clashes. SRK’s Dilwale will surely Super Hit or Hit. His consistant is amaging

  • So weird.. This article is published even before Saturday collections are officially announced.. So many tricks to spread negativity.. Why?

Its like ur own people disowning u while the whole world is loving you. It has caused a storm in Overseas markets..!!

  • Indicine, you are not posting my comments at all. You may lose a fan of you following you since the release of Wanted in 2009.
    Good job!

  • Oh sorry. You may disregard my earlier complaint.
I was just upset it took me time to write those. Thanks.

But please ANSWER THIS QUESTION of mine.

    HNY vs PRDP Opening Day:
    Screen Counts: PRDP >>> HNY
    Ticket Price: PRDP >>> HNY
    Occupancy: PRDP >>> HNY

Then, why the BO Opening Day of HNY >>> that of PRDP??

  • Saw Dilwale yesterday! Its a poor film to say the least.

Dont know whats wrong with our superstars. First PRDP, now Dilwale. Are they doubting the intelligence of the audience???

Dilwale will struggle as it would not be able to get the huge weekend that PRDP got. Remember PRDP was a solo, festive release. PRDP dropped on Monday but the solid punch was delivered. With little manipulations in figures, it got to 200 cr. Anyway PRDP was a hit due to its opening weekend. Otherwise we would have seen articles like worrying signs for PRDP too!

This is where Dilwale is weak as its a normal weekend plus its not a solo release. Multiplex audience has another alternative plus christmas is a week away. After watching the film, it can be safely concluded that it was a mistake to release on 18th. They should have released on 25th and tried to take advantage of christmas new year period and would have also avoided the clash.

Week before christmas would only work if the film is accepted generally by the audience. That is where 2nd or 3rd week become important. Not when you have “Worrying Signs” in the first weekend itself.

Just reinforces what Ive been saying – Its not the Xmas New Year which is the best period to release a film. All major festivals are alike with Diwali having the best weather and being the biggest Indian festival.

BTW @ Indicine – 4 stars for PRDP, now 4 stars for Dilwale, seriously?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • @akfan not sure if you are illiterate or not but you seem to have your facts mixed up or you are living on another planet. SRK is less than 500 or more points in star rating behind Salman Khan as well as Aamir.SRK career was going down hill for some time now. As for protests affecting the film this was brought on by SRK himself no one else. I believe now that he made that controversy remark because he wanted an excuse as to why dilwale did not do well. The man is not stupid he knows the Indian people and he knows how to push their buttons so that they respond negatively.
However I do hope he doesn’t get too drunk after this fiasco and fight someone like he did when Farah husband commented of RAone rubbish movie. Poor fellow and poor fans from their comments many are peeing in their pants. BTW xzone is very quiet on this or has he gone back to Syria with Isis.

  • @Indicine : Please prepare an article on overseas collections. Dilwale opened with a historical knock in overseas with around 22 cr (INR). Highest ever for any Bollywood movie.

@S.a.S 10:08 am : You were never a fan. A loyal fan will never judge his idol based on collections. Yes, collections are disappointing , but how does it relate with “you following SRK”?
Tell me one thing, what was the reason for you choosing SRK as your idol? His acting skills, his self made personna or collections of his movies ?

@Aki 10:10 am : Its sad to see that you all are taking help of “lies” . First @Hrithik and now you. Can you show me a single comment of mine, where I predicted 400 cr for Dilwale ?

  • Wathed bajirao really a jabrdast movie . ranveer singh gave rocking/phadu performance .the best performace given by any newcomer . specilly in malhaari song
dusman ki dekho hai waat laawli………….

  • Some shows which were cancelled yesterday, have reopened again this Sunday in MP. It is running in exactly similar amount of screens as Friday.

But, no doubt WOM is better (as expected) for BM. Watching it this evening.

  • One commentator wants SRK to stop smoking etc but the damage to his body is already too late. His hardness of face and body is a result of over use of harmful substances. His knees are beginning to give out, his liver is in bad shape and it does not need a rocket scientist to know this. It’s evident their for all to see. I will be very surprised if he is even able to finish filming Fan and Raees. I personally think he should retire and go into production as he said recently is what he would like to do. He has fallen hard off his pedestal and he now has to climb his way back up.

  • I want to say something to everyone .
Game is NOT over yet . Being a fan of SRK – I haven’t yet watched Dilwale . Do you know why ? Because there are no tickets available . Wanted to catch it on Sunday , but both evening and night shows are sold out !

So what to do ? I’ll be watching it on weekdays – maybe Tue or Wed . And there are many other SRK fans like me as well . Once they watch the film , the picture will change !

  • @sweat heart, the irony is that you weren’t an Srk fan before 2011 when he was at the peak of his career. Cant believe so. And you became his fan when his stardom started fading and that also with a crap movie Ra.one? Really you made my day with such a laughter.

  • @ xzone :

It’s not mandatory that a film has to show growth on Saturday . Remember Dhoom 3 ? After 36 cr on Day 1 , it dropped badly on Saturday with 33 cr ! But on Sunday it jumped huge and brought a mammoth 38 cr …!

Lets pray to God that Dilwale jumps big today !

  • watching dilwale was an aweful experience.. a complete juvenile effort and a pretencious film .. to be avoided at all costs

I don’t know what indicine saw in the film to lavish such praises

  • Finally watched. ..Dilwale…

  • i feel so sorry for the people who are very happy as a SRK film is being lifted from the screens because of the protest..people have various tastes..one can be a SRK fan or a Salman fan..the fight between fans must be kept within a limit.. i want to say to the people who are very happy with the protest as it is hampering their rival star’s film that you never know your star can be affected by the same political behaviors.. we need to support cinema and stand against these behaviors in this kind of situation…

  • There’s nothing new in this.. Everyone around is a crab.. When someone is moving upwards, you’ll pull it down.. That’s how your behavior is.. Don’t care about what it collects or BM beats Dilwale, All nonsense.. I watched both the movies. Both the movies are well executed.. Considering both the movie’s genre, if you want to visit history (changed history), go watch BM. If you want to get entertained, go watch ‘Dilwale’.. No need to spread fabricated negativity and pull people back.. These are those people who say everyone has their own rights to do their thing in India & now slamming your thoughts in people. Get a life.. If you call yourself fans, then first learn to respect your opponent, be it a fan or a superstar. And talk data not manipulations..

Dilwale is looking to do unbelievable in Pakistan despite clash.. Film is looking sure to cross day one numbers of Jawani Phir Nahi Ani which came on National Holiday and had small film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon against it whereas Dilwale has biggie Bajirao Mastani as it’s competitor..

Film had 210 shows all over Pakistan and is packed every where.. Be it Super Cinema Lahore, Capri Cinema Karachi or Cinestar Multan.. Film is running around 90-100% occupancies and now film is challenging record day one numbers of Furious 7 which had collected 2.69cr approx on day one aided by IMAX, 3D and solo release.. Film will easily cross Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’s 2.07cr and Dhoom 3’s 2.11cr becoming 4th film ever to do over 2cr on it’s opening day in Pakistan..

Film has massive advance for Saturday and Sunday and shows are increasing at many places which means film is heading towards Weekend record also.. Eveready had bought film at very huge price but with record day one start film is set to be plus for them as Christmas and New Year will help a lot in coming days..
