Worrying signs for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale in some circuits

There are protests at a few places, a few shows have been cancelled and few others have been disrupted. The film hasn’t even got the kind of release it deserves, but there are worrying signs for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale at centres where it opened well on Friday.

In cities like Bangalore and Mangalore, Dilwale has shown a drop in business, while Bajirao Mastani has picked up by 30-40%. The gap has also narrowed down in North India, where Dilwale was expected to dominate. These are ominous signs, because centres like these don’t usually drop on Saturday.

In the Maharashtra state, it’s a different story altogether. Bajirao Mastani is already leading at several multiplexes in cities like Mumbai and Pune. On Sunday, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is almost certain to surpass the Rohit Shetty directed film and could do so by a decent margin.

At multiplexes, there was very little to choose between the two films on Saturday. It was on this day that both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani were expected to show growth in the range of 10-15%. Bajirao Mastani has exceeded expectations with 20% growth, while Dilwale remained at around the same level as Friday.

There is a good chance that Bajirao Mastani could match the collections of Dilwale on Sunday and if that happens, the writing will be on the wall.

  • Eid will be no different!!! Clash will happpen and i guess Raees will go little ahead of Sultan ..no doubt ab SRK BO potential just hope his films are being liked more

  • what a narrow minded people are living in our country…….
If dilwale collection in overseize will be greater than indian box office then it will be tight slap on indian narrow minded people….
Totally shocked with their behaviour towards our proud, our king SHAH RUKH

  • Dilwale many shows has been cancelled.Because of Political Parties!!!Guys whatever is happening is nt right! This is my sincere request to all srkians, salmiacs, akkians we shud stand UNITED 4 DILWALE!!!#Support Dilwale!

  • Yeah, collections are below expectations. Not only for me, but for everyone else who had predicted a number (including indicine and trade). Yes, protests have affected Dilwale in various parts of the country , but we would have considered that factor, when Dilwale would have sustained well at least at those centres where it was performing well on Friday. I totally agree with indicine and it should have shown a growth on Saturday, which, unfortunately didn’t happen.
At this point of time, I am not understanding what’s going wrong with Dilwale. Even a SRK hater knows that Dilwale’s WOM is not as bad as HNY. People , who have watched it (I am talking about neutral audiences) didn’t call it a masterpiece , but they didn’t hate it either. For them, it was a perfect one time watch.
So can we conclude , that its more of an “Over inclination” towards BM, and thus the audiences going gaga over BM instead of Dilwale ?
Also, this is not a clash of JTHJ VS SOS where SOS was having around 800-1000 screens less than JTHJ.
Here, both BM and Dilwale are having same no of screens and even few are quoting DIlwale’s screens as 2800 (as compared to BM’s 3050) .
So screens are equal and difference in first day collections of these two movies are only due to star power of SRK. But my actual worry is, why this WOM came into picture from Saturday itself ?
Generally, any movie with bad WOM scores huge in weekend (due to advanced booking etc) no matter what’ the review is. The best example are HNY and PRDP. But in this case, its going in other way and it seems, audiences have shifted to BM from Saturday itself.
Anyway, Sunday is a litmus test for both the movies, specially for Dilwale. Dilwale has to show growth and should put 25 cr+ on the cards to have a decent lifetime total.

@Hrithik 2:55 am : Yes, odds are against us, but that doesn’t mean you are free to talk whatever comes into your mind. Show me a single reference where I predicted 10 cr lifetime for BM. I will apologize everyone and leave this site forever. Else if you have any dignity left, then you should apologize for quoting me wrongly. Not only me, I guess no die-hard SRK fan had predicted 10 cr lifetime. Its only your stupid imagination.

  • dilwale is a big disappointment for me

    if it crosses 130cr

    I will be really surprised..

I usually like all the movies of big stars,

I even liked jai ho, ra one, talash, Hny

but dilwale failed to connect me..

after mnik, almost srk movie lacked SOUL, except for ce and jthj ( that too some extent)
    this movie was like.. wtf
    even romance look forced

    I am his loyal fan
but I can’t describe how disappointed I am

I can see first failure after 11 hits
bm could be the winner and surpass dilwale eventually

from this day to the release of fan

he might be facing extreme negativity
even by his loyal fan like me…

    DILWALE WAS A CRAP

    DESPERATELY WAITING FOR FAN

    AND I HOPE IT’S A GOOD MOVIE

I AM KIND OF LOOSING MY FAITH ON KING KHAN

  • Come on SRK fans no more excuses please show cancelled, protest and all it was happen at the time of PK as well but look at the collection more stupidity is you guys said it will reached 400-crores where is XZONE & JAVED?? it will only get the hit status most probably.

  • Watched bajirao.Seriously its a visual treat.But guys wait.Dontt expect baahubali/jodha akbar.BM is a bore.Nt gr8 or we can nt a gud story.
    My ratings 2.5*.

Honestly, 3.75*.I hd given CE 3.25*, Kick 3.5*,HNY 2.75* Dhoom3 3.25*. So u guys know wht 2 expect from the movie.Comparisons was needed as thy all were masala movies.
    SORRY 4 a long article!!!!

  • This is the reason why I always felt that Dilwale had to release on 25 December..may be protests and all that stuff would have effected even then also but a huge national holiday opening would have meant that it got the kind of release that it deserves (4000 screens) and also a near 40 crore number… But all said and done, even Tamasha had shown growth of 20% on Saturday but didn’t make any headway on Sunday so it remains to be seen what kind of growth Bajirao Mastani shows on Sunday..as for Dilwale, the holiday period is yet to begin so I hope it reaches a big lifetime number.

  • Indicine team is in a hurry to conclude here. Dilwale is showcasing a trend which every big movie shows. Started Friday with excellent occupancy then minor drop on Saturday and a jump on Sunday. The only difference here would that the Sunday jump would be 15-20%. Secondly BM has done very good business on Saturday because it failed on Friday and it will showcase a growth on Sunday. But the problem with BM is that except Maharashtra and CPCI the rest of the circuits are good to bad. Coming to Monday Dilwale would have upper hand because this movie has been liked by youth and family. Dilwale will finish 1st week with 90-100 crores while BM will finish at 65-70 crores. From Second weekend you will see the real difference where dilwale will have higher screen count in most of the circuits except for Mumbai and Maharashtra ultimately giving it extra cushion.

  • now from today onwards exuses will start like protest, critcs review, clash etc etc
so from now start telling if protest did not happn for PK it would have collected 500 cr domestic …

  • Indicine..even Bajirao had shows cancelled in pune plex all 5 shows for the day were cancelled after BJP protests…and pune is really huge for bajirao..isn’t it..still bajirao is performin exceedingly well..

  • I did see Dilwale and frankly I have to say Chennai Express looks so much better than Dilwale. It all comes down to the content, story, screenplay and the list goes on. Let’s see what the Sunday holds for these two movies.

  • Guys surprisingly the bookings for late night shows of BM was way more than Dilwale in NCR leave aside other states..BM was leading by a distance at each theatre by a distance..and that can be the last nail in the coffin..and i am speaking with complete honesty..So I guess its tough tyms ahead for dilwale..

  • Seeing this I can say only one thing…sarook must be already shivering at the very thought of clashing with Salman’s Sultan

Sultan will whoop his sorry @ss and sarook will never ever clash with anyone even if it’s a newcomers film

    Your thoughts indicine?

  • INDICINE i m a big star wars fan…do u think star wars will make any impact on dilwale and BM in the urban centres like mumbai ….i think it should..n if it does it will affect BM more coz its working at urban centres more

  • I think with so many protest many shows were cancelled and still its getting the same number as firday which is great. This shows dilwale is going to stay long. As wom is good. I hope these protest will stop. I m going to watch it again with my friends bcz i loved it.

  • the chants of 400 cr n it will crush pk records are nowhere to be heard now.. lol.. too much fun.. blockbuster director rohit shetty, superstar actress kajol, youth superstar varun, youth sensation kriti, superhit music, festive release, masala film.. so much of backing still they could not save srk.. self proclaimed king.. meanwhile chants of it will crush bm are also nowhere to be heard.. infact bm has crushed dilwale.. lol.. too much fun

  • Haters r trying their best to spread negetivity bt those who hv watch dilwale they know how good movie is dilwale. So dilwale is going to say for long run.

  • Ha ha ha habworrying signs?

    Prdp 1st day—-40cr
    2nd day—-31cr

This is the biggest drop ever.

where as despite of huge negativity

    DILWALE 1ST DAY—-21CR
    2ND DAY—-20CR

This is not a drop you fools.it’s due to many protests from deshdrohi groups at many centres.just wait and watch SUNDAY,MONDAY will prove DILWALE will kick bm out of theatres.

DILWALE IS A LONG RUNNING FILM ,nothing can affect A MASALA MOVIE.still PEOPLES ARE NOT GETTING TICKETS still these fools are saying this,ROFL….

  • Its not first time that srk movie has collected more in overseas than india. Same was the case with Mnik. At overseas people knows bollywood bcz of srk . Srk is the face of bollywood.

  • dilwale is crap honestly.dilwale
    offered nothing new,just copy paste
some best sceans from other hindi and english movies.

    Hum+few more 90’s bolly movies+ P.S I Love You+ Love Actually+ How I Met Your Mother+The best of me= Dilwale.
    1 star for this screenplay

action is good but not best.we know srk is nt good in action.stunts are mostly inspired by hollywood
    2.5 for action

    songs are good nt best.
    2.5 for songs.

acting: srk is very good in serious roles but in Dilwale he didnt get to do much more.we can say that srk leads only the flashback part in dilwale.and he was good.before flashback and after flashback both parts were lead by varun dhawan..

    others as actingwise:

    varun dhawan is okay
    kajol above average
    krti sanon average
    boman irani okay
    varun sharma bellow average
    johny levar bellow average
    sanjay mishra average

finally Dilwale had everything in positive. director, producer, star caste, music, release date only negetive thing is it’s story .totally unorginial and like 90’s action movies.

    2 star for this movie.

  • I hate srk fans they dont support srk movies and instead r found fighting with other fans. Go and see the movie and inshallah 230 crore dilwale can earn.
