Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has said there is a need for more theatres in the country, especially on the outskirts of cities where people don’t get to watch movies because theatres are way too far to travel.
“There are very few cinema halls in India and we can still do another ten thousand plus cinema halls in this country. In the main city, with all the real estate price and other things, I think they will rather make a office. So, whatever cinema theatres has to be built, they will have to be built on the outskirts and that is where they should be built actually” Salman said.
The reason, Salman said, was because small places in the city don’t have theatres
“Because lots of small places in the cities they don’t have any theatres” the actor added.
India has one of the lowest cinema screens per capita. The United States of America has nearly 6 times more screens, even though India has 4 times more population. China too has significantly higher number screens.

But what happens to those theatres ? There are ample of theatres in suburbs which are barely visited even by the locals. So coming up with so many theatres might not really be a great idea right now. A few years down the line may be yes.

building a theaters is not an issue but to run a theater at small place is a big issue itself.. at small centers only few films works per year and there are atleast10 people work in a single theater and if they charge rs1000 each person then owner of theater need to pay 100000 per month to them also if you include other expenses like light bill etc then its impossible for the owner to run the theater.
SRK is the only Actor who gives Good market for bollywood movies in overseas market…And Also he is opened huge box office for overseas…
Also Srk movies was recieved so many screens in south , north , east & west.. not any other bollywood Actor achieved that… because he is famous in all India & Abroad.. love u king khan…

@least 5-8 km from cinema centre from the interior settlements in India will not be bad and easily accessible.

One more important thing is the entertainment tax of 60 to 70% being charged by government in cities like Mumbai. I mean, who will want to watch movie back to back after spending Rs. 300 to 400 per ticket?
In our city it was only Rs 100/- a few years back, while in prime areas it was around Rs 300/-, but now even we have to pay the same thing, while for some plexes it is now 500/- plus.
Family outings for movies becomes less until unless the word of mouth is excellent, so taking a chance with a new film is out of question with huge cost involved, and people then wait for reviewers (90% of whom are biased) to decide whether to go or not.
Most indians cant afford to watch movies in theater…….they barely keep there stomachs full

why anybody is ready to invest in theaters ….? It’s a fact a very good performer (Exhibitor) in 36garh is struggling every week for getting films…..Hence request do not built theatre without knowledge.

I disagree with Bhai Rather than focusing on screen he should do good films like Aamir and should focus there .
India has good no of screens Problem is that avg indian movie watcher only watches 6 to 7 films in theatre in those 3 to 4 are his choice and other are dependent on WOM. If film like Dilwale or Prdp or xyz like Kkhh3 mastizade those are completely rejected then Distributors will in heavy loss look what distributors of Dilwale faced loss in 3000 screens then think what for 10k .
Small centers should have to increase there Screens but those screens in metros not performing those have to be shifted to small centres that’s only answer .
on the other hand Bhai is only looking for Himself that he required 100cr per day collection .But Film depends on quality not quantity .See what 3 idiots done in 900 screens which Dilwale can’t do in 3000 screens
