‘We had announced Bajirao Mastani earlier’ says producer Krishika Lulla

The big box office clash between Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani and Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale is confirmed. The distributors of Bajirao Mastani had started blocking single-screen theatres a couple of months ago and the makers of Dilwale too have done the same.

On paper, Dilwale is a much bigger film, both in terms of star cast and a universally appealing genre. However, Bajirao Mastani is likely to be promoted as a film with larger-than-life sets and high production values. In short, a film that is best enjoyed only on the big screen.

The producer of the film, Krishika Lulla of Eros Entertainment, is confident that her film will survive the clash and do well at the box office.

Talking about the clash, Indian Express quoted Lulla as saying ”As a producer who wouldn’t have preferred a solo release? I am sure they (Dilwale) would have also preferred the same. (But) Everybody has a right to come at their own time. We had announced our dates earlier.”

About 3 years ago, Eros first decided to release their film against a SRK starrer when Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan released on the same day. Both films did well at the box office and Krishika is hoping the result, this time around, is the same.

“There are so many movies which have come together. So, I am hoping both films do well” she said.

  • Krishika Lulla will do suicide because movie budget is too high which can not afford dilwale clash bm team should change date 5 jan

  • I think family audiance will prefer dilwale over bajirao mastani..the only thing which will hurt BM is its high budget ..already people had watched bahubali so may be they will skip it..but in maharashtra it will do grt buisness but that will not help much..i am waiting for dilwale..and all the best BM..from SRK fan

  • Lulla will become completely’Lull’ post his ‘Bhaji rao’ will be thrashed by Dilwale. I mean, if he decided to commit suicide , many other ways were there around. But clashing with SRK will make him bankrupt completely.

  • Krishika Lulla says right. This greedy SRK wants to clash everybody to make benefit for his craps. Akshay & Ajay were big time Idiots. But Ranveer Singh is very smart.
I hope Bajirao Mastani will emerge a winner.

  • Even if BM is only enjoyed on big screen I will watch it on TV only.
    Dilwale first day first show.
    #dilwale

  • i always wanted Dilwale to release on 25 december..it is a huge national holiday so the opening will definitely be earth-shattering..if it gets 4000 screens then it can open around 40 crore and if it is around 3500-3700 screens then the opening day can be around 35-37 crore..i simply cannot understand why shah rukh sir wants to clash and release dilwale on 18th december..if they come on 25th then they will get 3 open weeks until the release of ghayal retuns which is enough to put up a huge lifetime total, possibly 270-300 crore..i still hope that the clash is averted and dilwale comes on 25th december..Fingers crossed..All the best to everyone

  • SRK doesn’t have potential to cross 119 + crore without Deepika Padukone. You may disagree but it’s true. Think before write articles. See his last 5 releases JTHJ, DON2, RAONE, MNIK & BILLU. All is fail at Box Office.

  • But mister…SOS is a masala film and JTHJ was a bit boring and bad scripted film…but this time DILWALE is full on entertainment while BAJIRAO MASTANI seems to be a boring and tiring film though it may be a good film…and also remember its budget…I think that though BM can earn some good bucks you and distributors will be in a loosing side…anyway BEST OF LUCK.

  • kashika want that when dilwale will be houseful rest of audience will not go to home and watch bajirao mastani this will be only way to got success lol ….

  • krishka lulla want that when dilwale will be houseful rest of audience will not go to home and watch bajirao mastani this will be only way to got success lol ….

  • what the big deal if they annouce their film early, JTHJ announce much earlier than SOS even they did not back out. so why only SRK?
on top of that, many cases movies dates are announce much before than shoot and they are not releasing on same date as announce for example, FAN release date announce earlier for 2015, Bombay velvet etc …many example…they did not ready for release.

why only talk about SRK….for Dilwale…they should consider SRK has 3 release in pipe line there is no gap in between so Baji rao mastani can postponed to another date as simple as that.

  • krishka lulla want that when dilwale will be houseful rest of audience will not go to home and watch bajirao mastani this will be only way to got success lol ….

bcoz last two directorial venture of Sanjay leela gujarish & sawariya not even got decent viewers in theater nobody dared to step out from their homes so that time they want anyhow people step out from therir homes ;)

  • I don’t think Krishika Lulla is wrong in releasing BM on Christmas . Yes Eros and SLB announced 25th Dec 2015 as their release date last year . Everybody has a right to release their movies on Holidays and Festival periods . But when they want to clash they have to be prepared for the worse because in a clash anything can happen . I hope this clash will be in a dignified manner like BB and Haider and not ugly like SOS and JTHJ . I hope both movies turn out to be Hits and be profitable for the industry . Both movies can work because Christmas is a huge festival and 2 movies can definitely do well . Ex. Welcome and TZP in 2007 . Both movies have different target audiences and hence both can do well at the Box Office !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • “We announced BM earlier”

    So what?

If tomorrow, Chunky Pandey announces the release date of his movie to be 2018 Eid, would all other producers back out just bcoz Chunky announced it earlier?

There are only 52 weeks and 210 movies that release in one year. Clashes will surely happen, not just small but big too.

So, it all depends on the distributors, how much screens they wish to allot to each film.
