Veer Box office Opening

Salman Khan’s Veer has opened to a fantastic response at the box office and is currently on a record-breaking spree on single screens. Business is best in North, East and Central India and worst down South.

Single screen business is 90% on Day 1 while multiplexes have seen around 50-60% average through the day. Combined, Veer has managed to nett 7 crores on Day 1 all over India.

As the film is performing best at single screens, it would be unfair to compare Veer based on box office nett collections. Going by the distributors share, the Day 1 business of Veer is next only to Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots and Ghajini.

Saturday too, the business is excellent at single screens and it would be very interesting to see how the film performs on its first crucial weekday. Tuesday, being a holiday (Republic day) should also boost the Week 1 collections.

If the trending is close to as good as Wanted, Veer should easily attain HIT status.

  • Ok Hina will u ask u one thing- some1 in his comment said salman was paid 25cr for this, even i heard this on tv, and d sets of veer, his accessories will it all cost just 44cr?? along with that heavy promotions.

  • @Adii- that’s why i’m saying…. he evn himself dnt know how many stars will he gv 2 a film……. wat else can i say???

  • @amish ..I have no idea about Salman’s fees.Don’t take me wrong but everybody knew blue had 80 carore budget then how it turned up into average?M just asking for info.N same Taran gave it 4 stars n i remember he said Blue is every where but when u c Veer’s n Blue’s collections there isn’t much difference?N btw u r beliveing the guy who wrote 25 carore fee 4 Salman. But u r not beliveing Producer of the movie.Even Indicine has confirmed budget arourd 40carores.Listen m really confused.Plz dun think m fighting.

  • Adhideb listen it was said by salman, anil sharma on tv in etc bollybusiness show with taran adarsh. and in a show called dance india dance- zeetv salman came last friday and mithun was also der. Mithun told every1 its one of d most expensive epic movies.
Nw i dont want to say anythin on this, wat i heard i told it. no hard feelings..:)

  • i pity people like Adii and Megha, coz these kind of people will never realize how disillusioned and ignorant they are in their lifetime…..
i think the best actors(male leads) around these ays are Amitabh and Amir….
and the most genuine star is Sallu……

SRK can only envy him and keep thinking what can he do to attain sallu’s status…
which SRK can never since he is corrupt and can fool only the nris…..
it is common knowledge that SRK uses all his means to drag down other films(like Janeman, etc)….
SRK should rediscover himself recreate his fauji and Raju bangaya gentleman days….
but it seems hardly possible with such a thick rotten icing of KKHH, Rab ne, OSO,…etc on him…
but now he is good only for Kiron Kher roles, hence should go for a sex change operation asap( if he is not a woman already)…

i would advise Adii and Megha to travel, meet as many people as possible, try to figue out what is life, what is good what is bad before they die…..
and when you are enlightened, pls don not commit suicide for once supporting SRK,…shit happens…

Sallu has a charm no one can beat…
SO many junta of india can not be wrong…
in a recent vote for the biggest superstar by a leading national news channel, Sallu was voted twice more than the person second….

Way to go sallu…be th way you are….

  • oh my god
    1st heared that
    veer bugdhet is 75 cr
    then 65 cr
    then 55 cr
    then 50 cr
    45 cr
    then 40
    annd after few days
it will mega boluckbuster becoz its budget 1 paise!!!!

  • ha ha Hina i know. it s confusing but d same thing happened with blue also. First d producers claimed it to be d most expensive movie ever made- 100cr-120cr etc. but wen d collections wer 30-40cr dey started telling budget s low, stars have given back d cheques etc, so dont really know wat was d budget der..;) it was said to be average bcoz d producers demselves had distributed it so none lost much except d producers which was obvious wen they cancelled its 2nd part..;)

  • The film has fared exceptionally well at single screens of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. However, the business at multiplexes was very poor. Friday was good [approx. Rs. 7 cr.], Saturday [approx. Rs. 5 cr.] saw a dip in business, while Sunday [approx. Rs. 7 cr.] was strong again. Given the fact that the share from single screens would be huge, the 3-day distributor’s share works out to approx. Rs. 11 cr. Monday witnessed a fall in collections, even at single screens. Tuesday being a holiday [26th January], the business should be strong again. But the real test will begin from Wednesday. The cost works out to Rs. 70 cr. and the film will have to perform for two solid weeks in India and Overseas to recover a big chunk of the investment.

  • @amish ..Lolz but here its the other way around.First The produce said its around 40 carores n now 70.I just wish Veer well. These calculations are crazy.

  • @ Nimish

widout a doubt Sallu is 1 ov da biggest stars. people love him not for his films but him as a person. if all his fans went to watch his films den we know what would happen.

da problem ive had from day 1 since VEER released is dat it was unfairly judged. yes criticize da film but dese shameful critics and some idiotic fans crucified da film.

at least da film was trying to give something different and da whole team of VEER and Salman should be applauded for dat. yes BLUE was bad but atleast it attempted something different. therefore i wasnt dat critical of it. it would be nice if every1 would just lay off. da film is doing well. its done so much better dan JA. which had Hrithik, Ash big director. rahman music. VEER only really has Salman and Salman alone.

  • guyz i know for a fact dat da budget is no more dan 50 crores.

why r u lot worried bout da budget. I.A da film is gonna do well enough to be counted as a success.

  • BO: Salman Khan’s Veer draws crowds in single screens; net biz at Rs 190 mn

MUMBAI: Salman Khan’s Veer, which hit theatres last Friday has done a net business of approximately Rs 190 million (Rs 19 crore) at the box office in its opening weekend in India. The movie managed to draw audiences in single screens across the country but the opening in the multiplexes has been poor with around 25 – 30 per cent occupancy and is not expected to go above 30 per cent in the coming week.

The film has done well only in the smaller centers. Fun Cinema COO Vishal Kapur tells Businessofcinema.com, “The opening of Veer has been very poor with an occupancy of around 20 – 25 per cent on most part of Friday. The reviews are very average and we don’t expect it to go up above 30 per cent.”

On the other hand the first week collections of Chance Pe Dance have been very weak, with occupancy of around 30 per cent. Inox VP programming and distribution Utpal Acharya said, “Chance Pe Dance has not been up to the mark, even though it’s a dance film and is supposed to be a musical, the songs were not good.”

Keeping aside the two new releases, 3 Idiots, in its fifth weekend did a net business of Rs 50 million (Rs 5 crore). The movie is still the crowd puller especially during the weekends. Even though the occupancy during the weekdays has gone down as compared to the earlier weeks, 3 Idiots is doing very well during the weekends. Till date the movie has done a net business of approximately Rs 1.88 billion (Rs 188 crore).

Besides the Hindi releases, Eros International’s Marathi release Shikshanacha Aaicha Gho, which released across 175 screens in Mumbai, CP and Nizam (Marathwada) on 15 January has collected over Rs 1.20 crore as net box office in its opening weekend. The reviews by critics as well as audiences have been positive.

  • had the critics not come out with their unwanted, unveer, illogical review, Veer would have been a runaway superhit….with the news of all the frenzy it is creating…
now it might be a tight call…

a good friend of mine who is an all time Sallu hater is also going to watch the movie coz it has become an ongoing national event….
this kind of movie is indeed unique and definitely worth a watch….
this kind of well made period film do not come often…
i bet if the same emotions and drama was shown in an engish film the multiplex audience would have loved it…
but they have become pseudo sophisticated and do not seem to have a mind of their own….

hoping for a big first week…
    Sallu all the way….

  • Hina sallus cost fee was 25 crore as he acted and written the script, i read this lst year when this article came that it was 75 cr budget, now how on earth the budget went down to 44 crore? also monday has seen big drop in single screens, hich isn’t good at all, tuesday shud do strong business but it depends on wednesday, if wednesday takes a fall then the film wont reach the hit status, and will be termed an average fare. i hope it sustains though.

  • I just get this. I don’t know is it true or false………

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, January 25, 2010 – 19:44 IST

Today when there are well above 250 films releasing every year in Bollywood, finding a unique concept can be a task, and every now and then, there are claims of copyright infringement being made. The latest film blamed for copyright infringement is Veer, and the makers of the film are accused of lifting some concepts from a certain book without any approval from its author.

The Salman Khan starrer that released recently has been dragged to court for copyright violation by author Pavan Choudary. The plaintiff claims that the idea and concept that India should not be a ‘Sone Ki Chidiya’ but ‘Baaj’ (hawk) has almost been identically copied and adapted from his book ‘Trilogy of Wisdom’ and that the makers of Veer are using the same for their commercial gains.

Justice V. K. Shali of Delhi High Court has since asked actor Salman Khan, the film’s producers and also director Anil Sharma to file their response on the allegation levelled by author Pavan Choudary, who has sought damages of Rs. 20 lakh from them. The author also pleaded that the court should stay the screening of the film.

    Van Damme’s daughter in Veer?

    By Faridoon Shahryar, February 19, 2008 – 11:33 IST

Vijay Galani’s Veer directed by Gadar director, Anil Sharma, is a big budget extravaganza. The film has been in news because of its hero Salman Khan charging a never-heard-before packet of Rs 25 crore as his fee. Now, the Bollywood Hungama news break on the film is a strong possibility of Hollywood star Jean Claude Van Damme’s daughter starring in the film in a crucial role. “Yes she is here, but I wouldn’t want to talk about it. She is a big man’s daughter. Har cheez finalise nahin hui hai,” says director Anil Sharma.

Sharma isn’t willing to disclose anything about the film except that “It’s a period film based in 1800.” He somewhat confirmed Salman’s reported pay packet for the film and also said that Salman has been working hard on his physique. It seems he has to enhance his frame by one and a half times since he is playing a warrior in the film.

Van Damme sports a ferocious physique and is known world over for his international action packed films like Bloodsport, Lionheart, Universal Soldier, Double Impact etc. While searching on the net we found out he has two sons and only one daughter born in 1990 named Bianca from body builder Gladys Portugues. In all probability, Bianca will make a stinging debut in Bollywood soon. Considering both her parents are in physical sport, she must be a tough gal as well. And yes you read this big news first on Bollywood Hungama!
