There has been a lot of discussion in the comments section as to who the Top 5 actors in Bollywood are at the moment. Most in the Singh Is King Box office collection topic were of the opinion that Akshay Kumar post Singh is King has gone past Shahrukh Khan as the King of Bollywood.
So we decided to do some research on the Top 5 actors in Bollywood and their last 5 movies. The actors included in the battle are Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.
The results were quite unexpected. A few things before we give you the numbers.
Some points to remember are, actors with more releases in recent times (Post 2006) have an advantage over actors whose movies released in say 2003. That is because of the mutliplexes that have come up all over the country and also the increase in the number of prints.
So Akshay Kumar has a much bigger advantage over Aamir Khan as Aamir’s 5th movie Dil Chahta Hai released in 2001, when there were hardly any multiplexes. Also dont forget the inflation!
Here are the number.
5. Salman Khan – Salman Khan is at Number 5. We havent taken God Tussi Great Ho into count as it has just released last week and its final gross is awaited. He mainly suffers because of Marigold, as it did less than 1 crore of business in India! Salman has just one Blockbuster i.e Partner.
- Jaan-E-Mann (2006) – 27 crores – Flop
- Babul (2006) – 17 crores – Flop
- Saalam-e-Ishq (2007) – 24 crores – Flop
- Partner (2007) – 62 crores – Blockbuster
- Marigold (2007) – 1 crore – Disaster
Total – 131 crores
Average – 26.2 crores per movie.
4. Aamir Khan – Aamir Khan although at a huge disadvantage is at Number 4. Imagine if Dil Chahta Hai had released today? It would have grossed atleast a minimum of 50 crores at the box office. Still since his come back the perfectionist has 2 Superhits and 1 Blockbuster to his credit.

- Mangal Pandey (2005) – 29 crores – Average
- Rang De Basanti (2006) – 51 crores – Super Hit
- Fanaa (2006) – 53 crores – Super Hit
- Taare Zameen Par (2007) – 61 crores – Blockbuster
Total – 210 crores
Average – 42 crores per movie.
3. Shahrukh Khan – Has been affected big time due to the failure of Paheli. It didnt even get a face saving opening at the box-office and did just 13 crores. Rest of his movies have done well. KANK and Don bearly managed to go on to be hits. Chak De and Om Shanti Om were blockbusters.
- Paheli (2005) – 13 crores – Flop
- Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006) – 46 crores – Above Average to Hit
- Don (2006) – 50 crores – Hit
- Chak De India (2007) – 64 crores – Blockbuster
- Om Shanti Om (2007) – 87 crores – Blockbuster
Total – 260 crores
Average – 52 crores per movie.
2. Akshay Kumar – Now this was a real toughie. But we decided to push Akshay Kumar down to second due to several reasons. He is the only star to not have a single solo ‘Blockbuster’ to his credit (Welcome was a multistarrer with Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Nan Patekar). Although we have included Singh Is King, it has not completed its complete run at the boxoffice. We had to predict the total nett gross of Singh Is Kinng to 72 crores (44 crores in week one is confirmed + 18 crores in week 2 is also confirmed + 6 crores in week 3 and about 4 crores in the rest of the weeks is a prediction). The other reason for placing him at second is he is the only actor who has the advantage of every movie releasing Post – 2006. No release in the Pre multiplex era of India Cinema.
- Heyy Babyy (2007) – 52 crores – Super hit
- Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) – 54 crores – Super hit
- Welcome (2007) – 76 crores – Blockbuster (Multistarrer)
- Tashan (2008) – 31 crores – Flop
- Singh Is King (2008) – 72 crores – Hit to Super hit
Total – 285 crores
Average – 57 crores per movie.
1. Hrithik Roshan – By far the youngest actor in the list, Hrithik Roshan by pure box office numbers of India, tops although by a very close margin. 2 solo blockbusters (KMG, Krrish), 1 multi star Blockbuster (Dhoom 2) and 1 Super hit (Jodha Akbar). His only failure in the last 4 years has been Lakshya which did average business at the boxoffice. A great comeback after about 6 failures in a row after Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.
Hrithik also has two movies pre 2006 which is a disadvantage.
- Koi Mil Gaya (2003) – 44 crores – Super Hit
- Lakshya (2004) – 23 crores – Average
- Krrish (2006) – 66 crores – Blockbuster
- Dhoom 2 (2006) – 86 crores – Blockbuster
- Jodhaa Akbar (2008) – 63 crores – Super Hit
Total – 282 crores
Average – 56.4 crores per movie.
The whole list might change when Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Chandni Chowk To China release in December. SRK could make it to the top if Rab Ne works big time. How Chandni Chowk fares will also be interesting. Hrithik’s kites releases in the summer of 2009 and there is news that it could be sold for 100 crores if not more. Aamir Khan’s Ghajini too releases this year end and is expected to create boxoffice history.
We will post an update here after all the 3 movies; Rab Ne, Chandni Chowk and Ghajini release.
Note – These figures are only of how the movies fared at the Indian Box-office. Shahrukh Khan is the undisputed king of the overseas box-office. Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan come a close second and third.

Well dude I must tell u I dont think you are a big akshay kumar fan .. Because if you are a big fan you should just be happy that he is giving hits one after another and becoming a bigger star with each passing day .. It does not matter whether he is at no 1 or not if each of his movies is doing exceptionally well .. I am a big Hrithik and aamir fan and I am just happy to see that they are in the top 5 atleast after giving such beautiful films .. I have no problem with SRK or Akshay being no 1 as long as I am getting a TZP or Jodha Akbar from them .. Why are shouting at every1 who is not accepting Akshay is no 1 .. In your heart he is no 1 and that is what matters .. forget every1 .. whether they say it or not you must know Akshay is already the king of many hearts and he will be among top stars of the country for quite sometime so you may rejoice at this fact .. Hello Everyone.
I’ve read previous comments on Idicine about the career chocie an actor or actress may make and was prompted to express my own views. This is just my humble opinion on this subject so please don’t fall out with me anyone or take any offence, because it’s just an opinion on a comment! Friends can disagree but remain friends I hope?!
Any career choice a person makes is their own e.g. an actress/actor becoming a model and posing for suggestive pictures, the decision they made is one they alone have to live with. We can show our disapproval for such choices by not buying into the pictures and looking at them, rather than insulting the person who is in them – for who are we to judge them? Have none of us ever made a mistake?
While I don’t approve of people “degrading” themselves to earn a living, ultimately it is their choice. There shouldn’t be a need for women to pose practically stark naked and morally we may not feel ourselves it is right, but it is an individual’s choice to do so and with it comes the risk of disapproval from people like ourselves.
Let the women (and men) who choose to earn a living like this, continue to do so, and let us voice our disapproval but not attack the human being behind the pictures. And if we don’t like the pictures or the films they appear in, we should VOTE WITH OUR EYES and not look at them & protect others we care about by not letting them see them either.
It’s good we have opinions about wether their choices are right or wrong but whom are we to decide if those choices make them any lesser person than ourselves? Does it mean then because say John Abraham who has said he would appear naked in his next film, if the part called for it, will be a male whore?
I have many pictures of HRITHIK ROSHAN from various ad campaigns and endorsements e.g. Cinthol and JOHN ABRAHAM from various endorsements, so I hope this doesn’t make me a terrible person for owning them?
All of us have made poor (or difficult) life decisions but at the time there may not have been any other avenue of escape, and who knows the true reason behind an actress/actors decision to expose themselves as a career move. Not always the right choice but it is their choice.
I love discussions like these and I’m sure there are people will think my opinion is wrong and I think that’s great because at the end of the day it gets people like us from all over the world talking and perhaps if we all talked more and were all a lot nicer to each other, who knows the world may be a completely differerent place???

Thank you for you kind remark. There are some actors/actresses I like and some I don’t like – but I leave my thoughts at just that. I can’t claim to know any of them therefore I’m not in position to judge them on a personal level by calling them names.
Can you imagine how they’d feel if they were reading some of the comments people made about them here? If it was me reading something written about me, by someone who didn’t even know me, I’d be extremely hurt and quite puzzled at how they were able to make such a personal judgement, having never even met me.
I agree lets have opinions but let’s keep it cordial. What IS (underlined) the need to be horrible about people we only “know” from a distance.? Think about it everyone.

Let me ask u some questions: If a woman is really a prostitute, does she feel bad if ppl would call her so..telling her: you are a prostitute?! No.. because it’s her profession, but if someone accused an innocent lady and called her the same.. she’d get hurt.

So on this show, a young girl wanted to admit to her boyfriend that she is a prostitute which he didn’t know, and do u know what she said to eveyone on the show? She said the following: Prostitution is the best job for a woman to do, getting pleasure and money in the same time!! ( the lowest thinking!!)
So.. do u think that everyone, including her boyfriend would hv any respect for her after she said what she said on the show?? No.. and she’d never care.. also these ladies who showup naked, fully naked or 1/2 naked or expose in bad ways..never care or bother about what ppl would think or say behind them ’cause they’re sure that their pictures would please some men, and would hurt some others! e.g. Minnisha Lamba, started to do some good movies, started to win some admirers and she’s new in bollywood ( I also liked her in her role in Bachna Aeh Hasino) but after watching these new pictures of her, I just changed my mind about her.. So do u think that this lady and after she agreed to shoot for these picutres didn’t have any clue that ppl in the town and overseas would talk about her?!! Ofcourse she does know this fact.. but the other fact is that she’d never care, ’cause they get crores for these photo shoots, and that’s the main reason for them doing it. My dearest Fathiya, please calm down and think rationally. A few years ago, a man used to sit in the middle of the road dressed only in a loin cloth. Everyone who saw him wondered about him and made all kinds of judgement. He was mad, etc. One person was brave enough to go and ask him what he was upto. The man, in surprisingly good english and a cultured voice answered, ” I am emulating my role model, Mahatma Gandhi. I wish to get a feel of what it would be like to be as simple and basic as the Mahatma was”. It now made perfect sense the man was by no means mad. Therefore, I feel it is very wrong to label anybody based on work they have done that the society would generally frown upon. In Islam we are taught not to expose people’s wrong doing, let alone judge and criticize them. Each person is answerable for his or her own actions. If we dont like what a person is doing we can keep away from that person or we can go upto that person and give him or her some advice, but we should never ever talk derogatorily about that person to others, behind his or her back and especially if we do not know the exact reasons why he or she chose to indulge in such social taboos.
So please Fathiya retract your words. If anyones actions are offensive to you, you can choose to personally boycott him or her. But kindly refrain from expressing such libelous opinion, especially in such open and accessible forums.

Islam is a biggest gift for women ’cause it came to protect women from other men’s greed, as in the past and before Islam, men used to torture women, they never valued them, they were just like some pieces of furnitures which they used to buy and sell, after having their pleasure with them. A man used to be with hundreds of women, sleeping with them, get them pregnant, and there were no control or any system to protect women before Islam, no good system for living a decent life. Then Islam came to save women from this filthy life and the prophit who received God’s well and (Quran), forbided all these sins, sex, alcohol and other stuff, and God asked women to cover their body, even their hair and not to show any glamour or beauty for any stranger except the husband only, and that’s because God created women beautiful in a way that men could never risist her beauty. That’s explanation in brief about Islam’s ethics.
So.. when some women showup this way, u don’t know how much their sin is great, and the worst is that few of them are (muslim girls!!) that’s the worst, if most weren’t muslim and their religion allow them to expose or show their skin to the whole world.. I respect everyone’s right to reply here and I suspect my knowledge of Islam is more than you would actually imagine, being fair, blonde and English as you know.
I know Islam to be a peaceful religion and all my friends who are of the Islamic faith are some of the least judgemental and most forgiving people I know. I know they certainly wouldn’t call someone they didn’t know a terrible name based on limited evidence ie a picture. But I do understand where you are coming from and I do understand in Islam that women are revered and respected above all. I understand that the modesty of dress is part of the Islamic way of life and can see how your comments and opinions are from an Islamic point of view. I totally respect that.
Here though, this isn’t about espounding the merits of Islam; we are talking as human beings (who all have one God), and as a human being my opinion is that it’s simply not nice to call someone we don’t know “a slut” or “a whore” or “a prostitute”.
If a prostitute is a prostitute then that’s what she is – we may not like how she lives her life and if we see her on the street and she offends are eyes and our morals, we can avert our eyes or cross the road if we wish. AND we have our opinions on her but who are we to judge her?
I’ve always believed the only one that can judge us is God.
So how do we know an actress in a picture posing in her underwear is a slut, whore or prostitute? A woman in a picture, that we may or may not like, is someone’s daughter, someone’s sister or even mother, and we as strangers are insulting someones daughter, sister or mother when we use these derogatory terms.
It’s just I feel unless we know the person in the picture personally and we know them so well we can call them up and address them by their first name, it’s not right to attack them with such vitriole. I don’t think women should walk down the street dressed like the characterisation of a streetwalker but that’s not for me to tell them, ” you shouldn’t dress like that”, or, “you look like a whore”.
You can advise people and you can guide them and you can give them some friendly words that perhaps they can dress, behave or act differently – but ultimately you can’t be judgemental about someone based on one aspect of their life, in the case we were originally discussing, an actress who dresses scantily in a photograph.
…..to follow on and finish my comment above, I sincerley hope I haven’t spoken in a way that offends you Fathiya, or anyone for that matter and it is quite obvious we all have strong opinions. My opinion is that let’s all take a deep breath and step back – and if we have an opinion let’s express it but not be personal and hurt someone’s feelings.

I agree to a certain extent, but if Alcohol and violence is prohibited in your religion.. Why then killing of animals is allowed? Muslims are known to consume Mutton, Beef.. why isnt killing of innocent animals like Goats and Cows prohibited in a peaceful religion?

Its a very old film with Ketan Mehta.. And SRK has done a very streamy scene with the producers own wife i.e Ketan Mehta’s wife!
Ashok: U asked a question and the answer is, as per our religion, is that God created some animals for human to feed on them, not all the animals and not all the birds, now in Islam, eating ham or pork is prohibited as the meat isn’t healthy, eating the meat of donkey, horse, camel isn’t prohibited but they weren’t created for human to eat them except Goat meat or cow’s meat. With birds only chicken, duck and also not all the birds we can eat. R u a hindu Ashok? I don’t think that all of u r vegetarian, lots of hindu r non-vegetarian, means that u also eat beef, chicken and other animal’s meat, don’t u?
If u r a hindu.. let me ask u some questions if we’ll get into the religion subject.. why do u hv different Gods?! and do u consider all Gods which u have e.g. Ganisha, Hanuman, others which I don’t know the names, do u really consider them the creators of human, animals, creators of the earth, sky, moon, other planets.. do u belive in them that they r the ones who will judge u after death, whether u will go to heaven or hell? I need some information about yr religion, if u don’t mind telling me, just in few lines, that’s all I request.
And about what u hv mentioned.. ( shedding clothes doesn’t mean he/she a slut!!!! Do u really think so Ashok?!! That means that u should also respect women on porn movies because they aren’t slut as they r acting only!! Poor girls.. how could we call them (slut) and they r only acting?!!! and what’s the prove that they are really slut or prostitutes?! Did we see what they do behind the doors?!!
If shedding cloth doesn’t make a woman (slut) in your opinion, so do u allow your wife, yr sister to do it?!! And about Shahrukh.. I don’t believe that Shahrukh really did these scenes, I haven’t seen the movie and never heard about.. I saw the video on You Tube and couldn’t believe it was Shahrukh as some ppl said it was a fake video and shahrukh never did these scenes, Madhuri in Dayavan, I think she didn’t expose.. well I don’t remember this movie, I saw a part from the movie a while ago and it was a kissing scene with Vinod Khanna on a bed, but not like Maya Memsaab, not a very bad scene.. I can’t say because I didn’t see the movie.
