All the major films of 2016 have premiered on television, except the biggest blockbuster of the year – Aamir Khan’s Dangal. We have the ratings of the other films and it’s Salman Khan who yet again dominates the year, like he did with his 2015 release Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which premiered in February 2016.
Sultan managed to beat all films in 2016, both on the day it premiered as well as on the 6th repeat run when it garnered viewership in excess of 98 lakhs.
What remains to be seen is if Dangal will eventually beat Sultan. If it does manage to do that, it’s then going to be about whether or not the film can beat Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which amassed more than 2 times the viewership of Sultan.
The 2015 Sooraj Barjatya family film set records with viewership of 2,51,19,000 (2.51 crore) – a record that it continues to hold inspite of other blockbusters hitting television screens.
The top star aside, the younger stars who are appearing in films that are catering to the masses and audience in smaller centres, have managed to make a mark in 2016. Tiger Shroff has two major hits – A Flying Jatt which failed at the box office, but was a blockbuster on television. The other film, Baaghi, did very well both at the box office and on TV.
The other star is Varun Dhawan who managed to take Dishoom to nearly 1 crore, which only three other films managed in 2016 / 2017.
Note: All films that were premiered and released in 2016 have been included. The Jungle Book was one of the most watched films of 2016 too, with viewership of 75,51,000, but since it isn’t from Bollywood or the Hindi Film Industry, we haven’t included it in the list.

According to some fan base (no need to mention which fan base) FAN was a masterpiece and a classic movie in the history of Bollywood (LOL), but this classic is rejected by audience not only in Theater but also in TV……FAN is FLOP in Theater and Disaster in TV….LOL

@Abhishek : As per your logic if Srk is no competition for Akki for a difference of 20-25 crs then do you really think Srk is competing with Salman ? Now don’t bring clash & non holiday because on non holiday Srk has a flop with 85 crs which is worse than Akki collections and about clash BRM shown aukaat last Christmas and Kaabil dented Raees collections.

Ms Dhoni is around 90,000 + ADHM 24,000,00 making total viewership combined 33,000,00 which is Just Half of Shivaay. Good to see Shivaay on top this year I wonder how much viewership it gets if its calculated same period gap of Housefull3.
Audience get bored with srk’s back to back rom-com masala shit movies, that’s why his movies neither work in theater nor no one (Neutral Audience) interested to watch his movies in TV…..Now see the fate of Dilwale (Huge star cast, Srk-Kajol pair, Action, comedy, romance) complete Masala Movie yet failed in both Theater and TV……..What Indicine said about srk was right neutral audience is not interested to watch his movies, even if they get chance to watch it free (Television Premier)…….
Srk has to think about it otherwise his career will end soon (I mean as a lead actor)…….His next with Imtiyaz is also another Rom-Com Masala Movie, so it’s fate will also similar to Dilwale or FAN……I think his last hope is Anand l Rai movie if that did not work or if it get clash then it’s over for srk……

There is something called “initial” and something called “content”. Same Salman Khan, in clash with Baahubali BB did 325 crore, same Salman Khan with solo wide release PRDP did 195 crore. ETT did 190cr+, Jai ho did 107 crore In terms of initial, Raees solo would have been 28-30 crore on 25th Jan(working day) which akki can only dream of. Rest depends on content. Even Fan’s real value opening would have been 16 cr, that is more than Housefull-3 which released in 400 more screens in more lucrative period with universal appeal.
Khans stand way ahead of rest and even in this dull phase SRK is in no-2 as far as initial crowd pull is concerned. And not clashes, a lot of stars have won/lost clashes, nothing to taunt about.
More than stardom, content is the king. SRK is making stupid outdated movies. In name of experiments he made craps like Fan and Raone. He will win BO once his content starts clicking.Though overtaking Salman in sheer stardom ilooks imposible for anyone as of now, but he can strengthen his no.2
