The release date of ‘The Dirty Picture’ has been officially confirmed by the makers. The film starring Vidya Balan as South Indian siren Silk Smitha, will now release on December 2nd 2011, which also happens to be the birthday of the late actress.
Says a source close to Ekta Kapoor “Silk Smitha was the biggest sensation down south and was known for her bold and daring erotica on celluloid. At a point, film-makers could not imagine releasing a movie without a titillating song or cameo by her. She was every filmmaker’s lucky charm. So, the film is being released on her birthday only to pay tribute to Silk.”
Apart from Vidya who has the biggest role in the film, The Dirty Picture also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor. The movie is produced by Ekta Kapoor (Balaji Telefilms) and directed by Milan Luthria. The screenplay is written by Rajat Arora and the music has been composed by Vishal-Shekhar.
Silk Smitha born on December 2nd 1960, was tragically found dead in her apartment in Chennai on September 23rd 1996 at the age of 35. The actress allegedly committed suicide.
