Tamasha is performing very poorly at the domestic box office, as the film has dropped yet again on Wednesday. The trend is very poor, even compared to a film like ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ which collected Rs 4.48 crore on Wednesday, as compared to Rs 3.32 crore of Tamasha.
The film is now looking at a lifetime total of around 65 crore. It’ll be Ranbir Kapoor’s third consecutive failure after Besharam and Bombay Velvet. As for Deepika Padukone, it’ll be her first commercial failure in 3 years. Apart from Finding Fanny, which was a low budget off-beat film, her winning streak including films like Cocktail, Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Ram Leela, Happy New Year and Piku.
Tamasha, which was made at nearly twice the cost of Piku, will end up collecting about 20% lesser.
Even in the overseas markets, the business of Tamasha has dropped after a good opening weekend.

@indicine This movie has already recovered it’s costs with worldwide collections + Satellite and music rights. How can you call it a failure? All the other sites are reporting it as a decent collection. So how has it become a failure only for your site?

One has to bear in mind that Tamasha is a film with a non-conventional story line, without the trappings of typical box office formula. The movie does not have any action scenes, item songs or multi star cast like in films which make large money at the box office. Tamasha seems to have appealed to the youth going by its domestic collections and a final domestic net collection of about Rs. 65 crores would be decent for the film as it’ll also make money from overseas collections and theatrical and musical rights. The film show cases one of the best performances in recent months and the makers are are also happy with the end result.
At least he takes risk. I respect him for that. He could have stucked to rom-com genre after the huge success of YJHD, but he was always trying for different roles.
You know why Varun Dhawan is not considered as a ” good actor” yet? Because he sticks to rom com most of the time playing safe…
