Tamasha has disappointed in its first weekend at the box office, as the film has recorded the 8th highest opening weekend of 2015.
For a film starring Ranbir Kapoor (considered to be one among the Top 6 stars in the industry), Deepika Padukone (numero uno female star) and directed by Imtiaz Ali (who himself commands a good following in Urban centres), Tamasha was expected to take a much better opening at the box office.
Key multiplex dominated centres, stronghold of all three names associated with the film, was below par throughout the weekend.
The problem for Tamasha was the poor opening day, a 10-11 crore opening is way below the mark for a film that has been made on a budget of close to Rs 80 crore. The opening should have ideally been in the 13-14 crore range, which would have given the film a solid platform to grow over the weekend.
Tamasha has beaten films like Baby and Dil Dhadakne Do. The weekend business is about the same level as Tanu Weds Manu Returns and lower than films like Gabbar Is Back and ABCD 2.

This movie has an urban flavor.. Thus restricted to limited audience.. Considering the screen count… It does reasonably well… It has strong overseas footholds too….
It got the least screen count also still 38cr. Should emerge a hit

@Ved bajirao: If it had got few more single screens,it would’nt have mattered much as it is almost a washout in single screens of cities outside metros.That would have created more problems.It’s a wise decision by the makers.
@Babaji @VeD Bajirao, screen count is a highly misunderstood term. Higher screen count does NOT necessarily mean higher collections. If there is a market, why would the makers not release it on higher number of screens? Noone wants to lose money.
