Salman Khan’s Sultan was outstanding on its second day at the box office. The film has recorded the 6th highest single-day in the history of the Hindi Film Industry.
Previously, only one film this year had crossed the 20 crore mark on a single day (3rd day of Housefull 3, national holiday). Sultan has twice crossed the 35 crore mark in two days (both partial holidays) and should remain above the 20 crore mark throughout its extended weekend.
The film has shown a small growth in business on Thursday over Wednesday, which is a sign that the word-of-mouth is certainly not negative and people are liking the film. Even with the Eid factor, it takes good word-of-mouth for films with such a massive release to sustain after a huge opening day.
The trend is also positive in a circuit like East Punjab, which has held on very strongly after a record-breaking opening day. Some centres, even multiplexes (it’s a multiplex dominated circuit) have shown decent growth.
Overall, Sultan is well on course to be a big winner at the box office. The question will now be, how big. Can it peak like Bajrangi Bhaijaan or sustain well enough to cross the 300 crore mark?

1. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Day One – 39.32 crore
2. Bajrangi Bhaijaan Day Three – 38.53 crore
3. PK Day Three – 38.24 crore
4. Sultan Day Two – 37 crore apprx
5. Sultan Day One – 36.59 crore
The list is dominated with Salman Khan starrers with PK the only exception. As Sultan has a second day similar to first it has chances of getting five days above 30 crore nett which has never happened before but will depend on the drops over the next two days.
Guys it’s very simple. First day was a partial holiday and the film did 36.54cr Muslims stayed away even in the areas where it was a holiday. Second day it did over 37 cr which is outstanding because remember it already did over 36.50 cr on first day, so the business got diluted between 2 days. A movie can only do 40 cr or more when things are certain that it is released on a full holiday and it has to be the first day because business gets diluted if holiday is 2nd or 3rd day. Very simple.

Irony is haters are calling 37cr an underperform when sultan crossed life time of FAN in 2.5 days straight. If 37 cr is underperform for a star then imagine how big that star is.

The film has actually gained in North India, Central India and Nizam / Andhra but when the final collections come from Mumbai circuit later on they will take the all India total a little lower than the first day.
Normally there is a 15-20% drop on the day after the Eid holiday but here there is hardly a drop as Eid actually fell a day later than the official holiday had been announced. This is also why the collections are all over the place with each circuit behaving differently depending on the holiday situation. .
It is looking as per early estimates that it is the second time that a film has managed to score two days over 35 crore nett. The first being Bajrangi Bhaijaan last year which was over 35 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday. Dhoom 3 is the only film to score three days of over 30 crore nett and that is what Sultan can do or maybe even one better and a historic 4 or even 5 days of over 30 crore nett. But that will depend on where the films lands today.
