Sultan has collected Rs 36.54 crore on its opening day at the box office, as per official figures released by Yash Raj Films. The film was extraordinary at multiplexes, with multiplex chains recording the single highest day collections of all time, but it looks like the ‘Pre Eid’ factor has affected single-screen business, especially at muslim-dominated areas.
Sultan has recorded the 3rd highest opening day collections of all time, behind Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The first day collections are at around the same level as Dhoom 3, which released on a non-holiday.

Wednesday, July 6th was not a holiday, even Govt of India and many state govts cancelled holiday and scheduled it on Thursday, July 7th due to non sighting of moon. Even if we take it as partial holiday it is way ahead of FAN opening which was released on a partial holiday. I am quoting this considering genre, screens, opening & ticket prices. First learn the difference between a full fledged holiday & a partial or non holiday. PRDP failed to beat HNY which is a kind of similar comparison if we overlook the genre difference !!!!!!!!
