Sultan has collected Rs 36.54 crore on its opening day at the box office, as per official figures released by Yash Raj Films. The film was extraordinary at multiplexes, with multiplex chains recording the single highest day collections of all time, but it looks like the ‘Pre Eid’ factor has affected single-screen business, especially at muslim-dominated areas.
Sultan has recorded the 3rd highest opening day collections of all time, behind Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The first day collections are at around the same level as Dhoom 3, which released on a non-holiday.

This is the only film whose producer’s first day figure is lower than BOI and other trade’s people. LOL. I had predicted 35.5cr opening in the ‘predict: the opening day collection of Sultan’ which is very close to the actual collection. Announce me as the winner.

It’s the overall figures which matters…….No star is after creating records on opening day…..everyone knows deep inside that films are judged by their overall box office collections and not by opening….look at hny, the highest opening day movie. It only got a “HIT” status as it collected low figures of around 200 cr….whereas PK which opened decently became an all time blockbuster……

Some people show 36cr as 45cr. YRF could have also declared it as 46cr/47cr. But they didn’t do it. Hats off to YRF for not manipulating the collections.

let’s get it very clear.. 6th was not a holiday.. not even a partial holiday.. second thing is that it was a pre eid release.. 36.54 is humongous.. don’t know wat happened with the 40 crore plus prediction by entire trade n websites.. still not convinced how so many trade experts n websites can go wrong at the same time.. have yrf underreported for curious reasons??? it has left a big doubt at everybody’s mind.. the reason i say that i have followed box office for a long time but it is the first time I have witnessed every trade expert, every film website, every box office website go wrong at the same time.. the occupancy was unbelievable that matched the occupancy of the highest of the highest openings released on a holiday n the entire trade was 100% confident about 40cr minimum.. I must say m surprised by yrf’s official figure.. don’t get me wrong 36.54 on a non holiday with pre eid is huge n humongous n out of reach for anybody else than salman.. my point is m not convinced with the official figure.. today should be around 30-32 going by yrf’s standard.. one more thing I wanna add I have often seen with srk movies for eg CE official collections being 5-6 cr more than predicted by trade experts n websites for the day!
@indicine- we have seen over reporting many times before. biggest examples being krish 3, ce n hny. is sultan the first case of under reporting??? or the entire trade got it horribly wrong??? n just over expected bcoz it was salman??? bcoz the occupancy n response at the ticket window has a different story to tell!
SULTAN’s 1st collections were affected by 15-20% due to Pre Eid/Ramdan factor. Most of the Muslim dominated circuits received below par collections!!

@Indicine, how you and other guys miscalculated is because you didn’t consider two important things –
1) It was non-eid, so no matter what, muslims won’t come to see the movie, no matter how it is trending that day……..big loss
2) It was a working day next day for majority of the people in big circuits like Mumbai, so the night shows will never be completely full……..so again big loss.
You and others tried to come up calculating that the trend and night shows will bring huge numbers, but sorry you over-estimated……
but yeh sab hota hain……..part and parcel of life……for example, the first day collection of HNY is under 40 cr, the world knows, but you have stick to the official figures of 45 cr…..sometimes you gotta deal with fakes too…..lolz.
@JC, those calculations that you mentioned were made on the day before release for our FBO predictions – which were accurate.
First day collections are made based on sample theatre figures, comparing them to other big films. Sultan was record-breaking in a few circuits and set single-day records in several theatres.
Very Good collection considering the pre-eid factor and non-holiday factor. BUT
This is a BIG slap on Indicine and other site which were trying to over-promote and over-hype SULTAN. Published 41-42 cr. estimation and the reality is 6cr less. Shame on you
