Sultan has collected Rs 180.36 crore in its extended first weekend at the box office, which is the highest 5-day collections of all-time and comparable to the first week collections of films like Dhoom 3 (188.99 crores – all versions), PK (182.89 crores) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (184.65 crores).
Basically, the film is the fastest to reach every figure in its first weekend and the only film to collect more than 30 crore on each of its first 5 days.
The occupancy was high throughout the weekend, which didn’t allow the film to show big growth on Sunday. The consistency is what was staggering, because the level of business was about the same on a working day, partial holiday and full holiday on Sunday. The biggest growth probably came on Saturday – a trend that should continue this weekend too – much like Bajrangi Bhaijaan last year.
After a record breaking weekend, collections have come down on Monday. A lot of centres that we tracked in the noon, dropped by 45-50% from Wednesday (first day). Ticket prices are down from the weekend rates, but still higher than the usual working weekday prices.
As of 2PM, crossing the 200 crore in 6 days is looking difficult, but the day-trend of Sultan over the last few days has been big growth evening onwards.

Being an srkian, I really hope SRK will also make a strong come back with Raees and Anand L Rai’s next, I think there much more fun when several actors are in competition for records. Salute to the honesty
This is something which proves my point. I always maintained that if you release a movie in a festive weekend without any major competition, first 3-4 days will ensure that your movie won’t fail at the B.O.. Since people will be in festive mood they will come out in huge numbers and if they are not provided with other options, they will definitely flock around whatever they will find in theatres.
Not to snatch the credits from Salman and Sultan Team (because maintaining 30cr+ for consecutive five days is something really huge and unprecedented) , the festive weekends play a huge role to determine someone’s stardom.
For example, last year Xmas, The combined collection of Dilwale and BM was around 340 CR. I’m not saying that if Dilwale would have released solo , it would have claimed that entire 340cr, but even in worst case scenario, it would have easily crossed 200 CR , because it’s first weekend itself would have fetched more than 100 CR.
Similarly, if Salman would have released a movie on non-holiday or with clash, collections of his movies too would have reduced , thus affecting his ranking.
Whole point of debate is, while considering the ‘numbers’ , one should also consider the conditions under which a particular movie is released. Because a PK/BB could never crossed 300 CR on non-holiday and a CE/PRDP/HNY could never have crossed 200 CR , had it released on a non-holiday weekend.
A person who is contentiously targeting a festive weekend will keep on putting huge numbers on box-office which will eventually make him formidable in the race.
Yes , you can counter my argument by saying a star gets festive weekend solely because of his star power. Agreed, but at the same time, does not it show his insecurity that he is afraid of coming out from his comfort zone?
This holds true for all the current superstars and has not been targeted towards any individual.
