Salman Khan’s Sultan is showing extraordinary trends at the domestic box office, as the film is set to record yet another 30 crore plus total on Friday. The film has collected around 32 crore on Friday (as per early estimates on Friday night), which was a working day across the country (even though there was Eid advantage at muslim-dominated centres).
Every circuit is performing, including Mumbai which has held on very strongly on Friday. Gujarat back back at opening day levels, after a small drop in business yesterday. West Bengal and Mysore were rock-solid, Nizam, Bihar and Delhi/UP were outstanding too. Moreover, the advance booking is excellent for the remaining two days in the weekend.
For probably the first time in a very long time, the trend suggests that it isn’t only the content that’s pulling the film through – but Salman Khan’s star power that’s sustaining it at such unbelievably high levels.
We don’t think the word-of-mouth is at Bajrangi Bhaijaan levels, yet people are coming out in big numbers to watch the film. The festive advantage is obviously there, but let’s not forget that it’s Salman who has consistently done films that appeals to his growing fanbase and made it an habit for people to watch his films during Eid.
Given the fact that a national holiday gives a film an advantage of 35 – 40%, the Friday collections of the film are at around 45 crore levels. In fact, every single day of the film so far would’ve been at 40 plus holiday levels, something that even Dhoom 3 hasn’t achieved. To add to it, Sultan hasn’t even released on regional (Tamil, Telugu) versions which can add about 3-5% to weekend collections.
Sultan has already become the 3rd highest grosser of the year in 3 days. The 3-day total of the film is about as much as the lifetime collections of a big film like Housefull 3. The highest grosser of the year – Airlift – will be surpassed in 4 days. And if Sultan holds up well Monday onwards, it could go ahead of ‘The Jungle Book’ in just about 7 days.
Moving ahead, there is Great Grand Masti coming next week, but that film, which is already struggling with piracy concerns (the main reason for preponing the film), will now struggle to get a decent single-screen release. Many single screen theatres, including fixed rentals, will be playing Sultan next week too.. so it pretty much gives Sultan 3 open weeks at the box office, until the release of Dishoom on July 29.
It’ll be interesting to see the trend of Sultan in the next couple of days. Will it sustain at such high levels on Saturday too? If it does, Sunday – the first full holiday for the film – could be yet another record-breaking day.

Indicine you are spoiling your reputation by being bias. Tell spade a spade. Each article of yours contains phrases like excellent trend, excellent advance booking etc etc as you are desperately trying to publicize the movie. Works in short term with money popping in from producers for paid publicity but in long term it becomes same like taran adarsh whose reviews no one gives a damn.
Guys Shah rukh khan is the King, we all only need his presence on silver screen , box office every time should not be counted every release should not be huge on big festive day. He is the legend people stop expect him to deliver 200 or 300 crs, I believe SRK does want to give his fans all kind of movies like fan n dear gindagi not thinking to make them blockbuster. He is at the stage we don’t need anything him to prove us. Similarly same goes to other actors they just want to act and give movies its all media creates war n only happens in Bollywood.

There is a story about the Hare and Tortoise, it’s not how the race starts but how it is finish. As Salman says it is not the opening of the film but how it fares at the end. I just came back from Dubai watch the first day, one of Salman’s best and it was great to see how much he is appreciated by the outsiders. The film has already cross the worldwide box office at 105 crore in 2 days a remarkable feat. God bless the whole team for a job well done. Another film that overrule Fan at the box office. Touch not those whom God has His hands on, the more you hate the more God loves. You keep your hatred you will always end up the loser. You keep going back to the past comparing this, comparing that, but the past is gone, the present and future is here. There has never, ever been two movies that is the same, just as there are no two humans each person are different. Learn to live with what is correct.

Again I repeat there is a full 5 day weekend,more screen,more ticket prices ,positive WOM,2016 and Salman power,still if SULTAN FAILS TO BREAK DHOOM3 COLLECTION 285CR (2013) then accept that AMIR is BIGGER STAR than SALMAN ….Plz dont give same execuses like biggest brand/franchise
because DHOOM3 released way back in 2013 and now 2016…so there is no brand/franchise factor

Dear Friends I am a big Salman Khan fan and very happy for him for this achievement and I request every Salman Khan fan not to write negatively about Shahrukh and his fans in this. You know Salman himself transmits positivity so please follow his advise.
Solo release, highest screens, more ticket prises than dhoom 3 which released 3 years back, all these factors are the reasons for which sultan is sustaining at this level. It would have been even better if Aamir was in this film. Bhai is lucky that Aamir doesn’t do films every year because despite less films he is dominating bhai. That is real stardom for you. Wait for Dangal and see how he will thrash all records. He is record maker. If sultan will fail to beat pk’s life time record then salman is not the biggest star as per media and his highly educated fans.
I’m in pak where masti 3 isn’t releasing and watched the movie on a laptop…it isn’t as good as the first 2 but the girl is very very hot and make it paisa vasool entertainment….2 be able 2 watch those big mangoes on a cinema screen is 2 die 4
