Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year has opened well at the box office on Friday. The film has collected approximately Rs 7.75 – 8 crore nett on Day 1.
The film has fared exceedingly well at urban multiplexes, while the response at single screens (as expected) was below the mark.
The opening day of SOTY is similar to films like Heroine and Barfi. The reports are good – better than Heroine, not quite as strong as Barfi – due to which, we expect the Saturday business to be similar to Friday. Sunday is likely to witness a big jump.
Three factors have helped Student Of The Year on Day 1; one, terrific pre-release marketing, two, good music and three, the Karan Johar factor. Like director Chandrakant Singh said on Twitter “1st day collection of SOTY has proved one thing that Karan Johar is a big brand and can be compared with any other top Bollywood star”
