Rajkumar Hirani, director of films like Munnabhai series, 3 Idiots and PK, is currently working on the 5th film of his career which will be biopic on actor and friend Sanjay Dutt.
The director has said that he was uncomfortable when it came to dealing with the ‘underworld’ side of Dutt’s life.
“I was a little skeptical initially. I didn’t want to touch upon the topic of the underworld as that’s not my favourite word. However, when Abhijat (Joshi) and I heard the story, we met Sanjay Dutt almost every evening for the next 25 days and later found that this is a story we wanted to say because it’s a human story. This will be the most entertaining film we ever did” Hirani said at 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
The director was quick to add that he would not make a film to elevate somebody as a person or to clear Sanjay Dutt’s image in the eyes of the public.
“I will make a film which is honest. I take five years to make a movie. Spending so much time on a movie because I want a great story” he added.
Hirani also said that he never makes films to please anyone.
“Never make films to please others. You’re the best judge of what will work and if you think what you’ve written will click, then do it”
Speaking along with his writing partner Abhijat Joshi on ‘How to make a blockbuster’, Hirani shared the secret behind the blockbuster formula.
“It’s simple. If you’re a filmmaker, remember that you can never attempt to make a blockbuster. Abhijat and I always like to work on a unique idea for our films. Even if these ideas have been attempted before, you just have to choose a different path to tell them” Hirani said.
Ranbir kapoor will ensure it is mega flop,..!..

I feel very strange when dumb guys and haters are saying PK was a crap film,OMG remake or preety average product and blah blah.
I do agree that PK was not his best of work but it was indeed much better film than A list director has given in recent times. Even his so called Average film he has touched upon many interesting thing and contrast of various religious customs. The
sequence of PK having confusion of coconut/wine in temple/church/mosque, the dress code which widows wear in different religion. PK frustrating conversation to God just after the “Bhagwan hai” song, The sequence in the Jail with Anushka
expression changes the mean of single word. The misunderstanding reveals in climax and many others are the scenes which stood out brilliantly. We knew about this already but never think that way.
These sequence were not copied from OMG and its not also cup of tea of any xyz director other than Raju and Abhijat storytelling.
I hope with Sanjay Duty biopic he will achieve bigger success than PK,Munnabhai and 3i.
But desperately want the most authentic and entertaining franchise Munna bhai 3rd Film.
Jab koi bhi director apni film ko sab se best bolta hai. Wohi hi movie flop ho jati chahe kitna bada director kyon na ho. Hiru bhai zara dekh ke. Kahin sirf average main na rah jao.
He will show how criminal like Sanju Baba is innocent , he try earn sympathy from this film . After this film how to criminal actor Salman & Sanjay will become superstar of Bollywood . Don’t make film on criminals this my suggestion . If u want to make Biopic then show how Akki & Srk become superstar of Bollywood .
Raju Hirani is one of the best entertaining director of the industry,in that perspect respect him a lot.in fact I liked and enjoyed every of his films but pk disappointed me a lot,because it’s nothing but just a crap horrible movie according to me.and it’s one of the most overhyped movie of Bollywood as well amir khan’s worst performance ever I can say.
Also in 3i too,amir’s role seems like little older to me,but anyhow raju hirani able to hide that with his giant entertaining story so we can’t even marked how imperfect was that role of amir in that film everything was OK in 3i besides amir’s overacting which is the only disappointed thing while other acted beautifully.and about pk is the film for which I can not only blame amir only but also have to blame raju too equally,both were so much disgusting whether that’s the reality point of view/making fun of Relegion/or just killing logics in each frame.so with pk he proved money matters for him the most.
Hopefully sanjay duty biopic will not be as cheapest as like pk.and hopefully it’ll be a good entertainer like mbmbbs/LRMB/3i.
LRMB is my best hirani movies performance wise.and 3i /mbmbbs is best movie according according entertainment wise.in his films if he’ll concentrate on deity then he could be a classic director,but that doesn’t suits him as he is at his best while making entertaining movies rather than classics,ROFL.all the beat for sanjay dutt biopic and yeah thanks this time no perfaketionist torture is there.

@aSSS, don 2 is the worst all time crappiest movie ever made in the history of Indian cinema followed by Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Ra.one and don remake. These three are crappiest, most horrible movies ever made in the history of Indian cinema as well as in the world history of cinema. Dont you clown know that? Get lost tharki chappal bechne Waale. DDLJ is also one of the horrible movies of 1990s and most overrated crappiest, most horrible movie of 1990s. Srk’s performance is of course crap in all his movies, but in these movies he crossed all the lines to make them all time crappiest torturous movies. Thank god don 3 is jot happening as there will be no king king torture. And if its made than it will he all time historic disaster.
Best example of telling a story differently was PK vs OMG n hence the former was way more entertaining n hence the biggest movie EVER…!
Without Aamir I dont see the movie being that big a success especially if RK continues his current run going…!

Biopics are very tough as you cannot miss important events and you just have 2 odd hours to say all that. Most of them completely go awry…..recent example Mary Kom.
They should take just one aspect of the person or just one important event and work best on it.
We hope as Hirani said….this will be entertaining.
This will be amazing. But I suspect that Ranbir can play the character of a macho man like Sanju. Ranbir looks soft, chocolaty, girlish…. I dont think he can do justice…
