Sanjay Dutt biopic: Rajkumar Hirani to direct Ranbir Kapoor

Rajkumar Hirani, widely regarded as the best director in the industry, will be directing Ranbir Kapoor in a film based on Sanjay Dutt’s life.

According to Mumbai Mirror, Hirani has been interacting with members of Dutt’s family who have already given him their inputs “I have got plenty of inputs from Sanju’s family. I’ve met not only his sisters, Priya and Namrata, but also his brother-in-law Kumar Gaurav and Paresh, a close friend of his who lives in the US” the director who awaits the release of his upcoming film PK said.

“I visited his home everyday for 25 days to hear every bit of this fascinating, eventful life story, only one-tenth of which is known. Drugs, underworld, relationships, his father, itna utar chadav hai ki poocho mat (there are so many ups and downs, don’t even ask)” Hirani said.

Dutt’s ex-wives Richa Sharma and Rhea Pillai, and his present wife Manyata Dutt, will also be a part of the film “We want to tell it as it is, but aesthetically. We don’t want to hurt anybody”

Talking about his professional relationship with Dutt while working on classics like Munnabhai M.B.B.S and Lage Raho Munnabhai, Hirani said “Jo bhi tha, woh late aata tha, daaru peeta tha, (he used to come late to the sets, he used to drink) but deep down there is a honest child inside Sanju. Never look at anybody in black and white. Sanju’s biopic is an amazing, unbelievable story of a flawed personality. That man has suffered a lot.”

Hirani has also confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor will play Sanjay Dutt in the film.
