The much-hyped box office clash between Rustom and Mohenjo Daro has turned out to be a damp squib at the box office, as one film – which was unfortunately the much bigger one when it comes to costs – couldn’t even put up a fight.
Rustom not only took a better opening, but the gap between the film and Hrithik Roshan starrer widened with each passing day. It started with a difference of around 60% and increased to 70% over the weekend. Weekdays onwards, Rustom was running at 2-3 times the collections of Mohenjo Daro.
The end result? A film that was made on a 100 plus crore budget will finish with net box office collections of less than 60 crore. In fact, the worldwide gross (including theatre share and taxes) will not cross the amount that was invested into the film.

Rustom on the other hand will be hugely profitable. In fact, it’ll be the most profitable Akshay Kumar film since Rowdy Rathore and OMG! Oh My God (extended special appearance). A well-planned marketing strategy, clever decision to clash and Akshay’s growing truth amongst the city audience, has all ensured that the film over-performed at the box office – exceeding even the limitations of the genre and appeal that the film holds.
While Rustom is one of the biggest successes of Akshay’s career, Mohenjo Daro will be the biggest loss making film for Hrithik.

Hrithik Roshan is the star with the worst PR over the last few years. Considering his style of working that consists of asking for 50 crore fees in advance , so that he doesnt have to worry about the fate of the movie and which enables him to take charas , holiday with his children,make out with C grade heriones for an year and then intermittently shoot for movies while also getting “injured” for 6 months and thus “rising the cost” , it takes him 2 years to complete one film and the results are there to see. Such kind of activity has to be backed by a good PR who keeps him in the loop with good articles at a frequent rate. all stars have it and they work well for them. the best PR belongs to salman and assi sir.
Now have a look at hrithiks great PR. 9/10 news articles floating over the net are negative

what is the PR team doing? on charas like their star? Why not release some positive PR articles? why not have atleast 5-6 dedicated websites that only have good articles on him? sites where they can clarify negative posts as well as instill positivity among hrithik fans over his future projects. instead what you get to hear is how kaabil costs are rising up (hrithik is the producer himself!) and how sushant singh rajmoot became safe by rejecting MJD!

mohanjodaro was not able to beat rustom even on a single day.dnt know why hrithik chose this movie instead of shuddhi, bahubali,bajrangi bhaijaan or thug.divorce and kangna made his senses lost.he need to recover soon.

Why airlift is not as profitable as rustom? Similar budget, similar distribution price and Similar lifetime collection?
And as far as I know rustom had a little better appeal than airlift as it has lots of humour in 2nd half , trailer was very commercial .it will be airlift first which exceeded expectations.

One thing is certain now that if any star comes out of his comfort zone n tries to do something different n releases on non holiday d collection s r bound to suffer.look at k3n bang bang both r hrithiks comfort zone movies released during holidays n scored huge even though manipulated in big way.now mj is different journal movie n released on non holiday n bundled up with 58crs.this is the scenario where akki has shined.his comfort journal movies r comedies where he was immensely successful n when he tried serious roles like baby,holiday,airlift n rustom even here he outshines himself inspire of releasing on non holidays.bravo.
Watched Mohenjo daro….really disappointed to see such bad negativity abt it on social media…..effortless movies like happy new year, prem ratan crossed 200 cr…& a epic master piece just around 60 cr..it clearly shows the level and taste of many peoples…

@Arjun youngistaan…shivay maybe a big budget movie, but still ranbir is far popular than ajay, kjo is also there and anushka (2nd biggest actress according to indicine) . So you can’t call ADHM a small film you bloody fool..!
