Akshay Kumar’s Rustom has exceeded expectations on its opening day at the box office. The film was running at more than double the occupancy of Mohenjo Daro at multiplexes. The first day collections of the film could touch the 15 crore mark, when the final collections come in.
It was a clever marketing strategy that has resulted in an excellent opening day for Rustom. In comparison, Special 26 collected Rs 5.92 crore (clash with ABCD), Baby collected 9.30 crore and Airlift collected Rs 12.35 crore. Rustom managed a better opening than all those films, inspite of facing competition from a big film like Mohenjo Daro.
When one big film releases, the audience has two choices – either to watch the film or not watch it. When there are two big movies, it becomes a weekend that’s not to be missed and the choice comes down to one film or the other. It’s this exact scenario that the makers of Rustom cashed in on and the decision to go ahead with the clash probably came after the poor response to the theatrical trailer of Mohenjo Daro.
The success of Bajirao Mastani last year and Rustom this year, will soon makes clashes a norm in the industry. As soon as a film or a star begins to appear weak or there are internal reports that a big film hasn’t shaped up as well as it was expected to, there is likely to be another film announcement for the same day.

Yes, clashes are expected to be more frequent as it also means good publicity for the smaller film.
I personally feel MJ is not that Bad as it shown by Critics or Others.But Srk fan supporting Rustom to Avoid clash with Rees.Akshay fans support Akshay,Salman supported Rustom and even Ranjikant support Rustom which help him for Robot.2.0.So all big star support and Critics also baised towads srk salman rajani and akshay so fans of above star spreading nigetivity against MD.I am Srk fan bt i think we fans should stop this and support good movie..And yes i agreed MD is big disapoint to all including HR fans.This movie should have been flop not digaster.

@indicine, not expect this from you guys, when other star’s film open well than its just due to starpower and there was no effect of marketing or any other thing in same way when a film like baby open average response it’s because of akshay and not the poor marketing, but when rustom open well its because of promotion wow, Akshay Kumar rarely promote his films aggressively, and when he did many have problems, I don’t know why?

First Of all… Congratulations To all Akshay fans for Winning opening day battle of this clash,Clash always creates negativity for both fan bases, but you know who lost today, not only Hrithikians lost, but I will say Bollywood had lost its business, someone’s 2 yrs hardwork gone in vain just because of hatred full of hatred towards him, interestingly who himself support others work spontaneously, today his fate got sealed on 1st day of release.
Am very much surprised by this behaviour of trade sites, some critics and some bolly journalists who did damage so ruthlessly to someone’s career, his personal life got dragged in his professional life…. Ohh god so much to write for him, my idol who today become victim of hatred & negativity.
I really want to salute Hrithik Roshan the way maintaining his cool from so long time against all this hatred, as a die hard fan of his, right now am broken, I know its part of life.
MohenjoDaro definitely could have been better, but definitely not a waste product the way some people thinking, its definitely one time watchable.
I know my Hero will be back with BANG and again will rise above all hatred & negativity…We fans are with him everytime no matter what.

Akki fans are the most confused fans i have ever seen! 3 100cr in a row a new record(@xzone)?? Were you asleep or something these past few years? Salman has 5 movies that has collected 100 in a row. 2 movies that collected 200cr(not in a row) and 2 movies that collected 300cr (not in a row). I mean i understand akki fans. 100cr is a big deal for them after all :P :P Now i only hope jadoo gets some light and give rakesh rohsan some power too his calculator :P :P

So basically audiences can purely chose which one has better script if there’s a clash like this… Like what happened to BM vs Dilwale and And I think that’s good.. Really disappointed when seeing bad script movie do well at box office just because it has big stars + on solo release. Let the clash happens for good LOL excited to watch SRK vs HR next January
