Akshay Kumar’s Rustom has exceeded expectations on its opening day at the box office. The film was running at more than double the occupancy of Mohenjo Daro at multiplexes. The first day collections of the film could touch the 15 crore mark, when the final collections come in.
It was a clever marketing strategy that has resulted in an excellent opening day for Rustom. In comparison, Special 26 collected Rs 5.92 crore (clash with ABCD), Baby collected 9.30 crore and Airlift collected Rs 12.35 crore. Rustom managed a better opening than all those films, inspite of facing competition from a big film like Mohenjo Daro.
When one big film releases, the audience has two choices – either to watch the film or not watch it. When there are two big movies, it becomes a weekend that’s not to be missed and the choice comes down to one film or the other. It’s this exact scenario that the makers of Rustom cashed in on and the decision to go ahead with the clash probably came after the poor response to the theatrical trailer of Mohenjo Daro.
The success of Bajirao Mastani last year and Rustom this year, will soon makes clashes a norm in the industry. As soon as a film or a star begins to appear weak or there are internal reports that a big film hasn’t shaped up as well as it was expected to, there is likely to be another film announcement for the same day.

Now it is clear that Akshay is bigger crowd puller than Hrithik. If Mohenjo Daro crosses 12 crore yesterday, then ensures that Hrithik has done manipulation. Where is EDX POWER NOT KHANS and DESTROYER OF KHANS? They told that MD will collect 300 crores with clash with Rustom. They think that Hrithik is bigger than Salman, that’s why even Salman promotions to Rustom help Rustom to cross 14 crores on Day1. Imagine if Salman was in Ruston then MD should have been struggle to cross 5 crores.

A franchise film HF3 had merely touched 15crore, despite having appeal. And a so called less appeal movie Rustom easily touched around 15cr on day 1 despite clash and lesser screen. Box office is really capricious and goes strange most of the time.
Nevertheless, its a blow to all those who had doubts on Akki’s stardom

Saw the movie last night. Critics like you might be bashing it saying that not up to the mark like a baby or airlift. Why to make a perfect thriller devoid of songs and any comic relief which can not collect more then 80-90 crores. But mark my word the director is very clever here, he has woven the thriller with humor and melodrama this time which will be loved by all the sections of audience. This movie might go on and become Akshay’s biggest grosser. Finger crossed.

Really? You guys have mentioned Special 26 and Baby here to show what? That clashes are not good things or that you just want to show people how low those movies collected on day 1? How do you consider Baby vs Sonam kapoor movie a clash? Or for that matter Special 26 vs a ABCD featuring unknown faces. I simply don’t get it. Special 26 was a least promoted, low budget, niche movie and baby also had content only for high end plexes with no song, no bollywodisation and was least promoted movie of akki. How dcould these movies have justified Akki’s pull? You are just bringing them on table to make MD’s low opening look good, nothing else. Try as much to live in denial and Keep demeaning Akshay as much as you want, but verdict is out in front of the audience and it speaks loud and clear that Akki is a bigger star than HR. Since I saw the trailers for Mohenjo Daro oand RUSTOM I’ve said, Mohenjo Daro – flop, Rustom – at least a hit! I have right! I’m happy for Akshay!
