Salman Khan’s Ready finished Day 1 as the third biggest first day grosser in the history of the Hindi Film industry. The action – comedy came close to 3 Idiots’ first day record, but fell short.
1. Dabangg – 14.5 crores
2. 3 idiots – 13 crores
3. Ready – 13 crores (is likely to settle somewhere in the 12.75 – 13 crores range)
4. Tees Maar Khan – 12.8 crores
Ready has failed to break records in any circuit, infact the collections of Tees Maar Khan are better than that of Ready’s in Mysore, West Bengal and Punjab. But for a non-festive release (Dabangg released during Eid, Tees Maar Khan and 3 Idiots during Christmas), Ready is easily the biggest grosser on Day 1.
Saturday witnessed a dip at places, which was expected, but the late evening and night shows were sold-out at several multiplexes. Usually going by the trend of the last few biggies, collections on Saturday are a little lower than Friday, with Sunday being the best of the 3 days. What would also be interesting to see is, if the India v West Indies T20 match affected collections late on Saturday.
Sunday will be the key though, a historic last day of the weekend will mean, the weekend collections for Ready will be close to the 40 crore mark.
Regarding the word of mouth, its pretty mixed and Ready is certainly no Dabangg. Its likely to shut business under 100 crores. More soon..

In 1993, Khan won acclaim for his performances in villainous roles as an obsessive lover and a murderer, respectively, in the box office hits, Darr and Baazigar.[25] In Khan’s entry in Encyclopedia Britannica’s “Encyclopedia of Hindi Cinema” it was stated that “he defied the image of the conventional hero in both these films and created his own version of the revisionist hero.”[26] Darr marked his first collaboration with renowned film-maker Yash Chopra and his banner Yash Raj Films, the largest production company in Bollywood. Baazigar, which saw Khan portraying an ambiguous avenger who murders his girlfriend, shocked its Indian audience with an unexpected violation of the standard Bollywood formula.[27] His performance won him his first Filmfare Best Actor Award
