After trying to woo the BJP for a ticket to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rakhi Sawant has decided to fight it out as an independent candidate from the Mumbai North-West constituency.
The controversial publicity-seeking Sawant, says she was ‘mobbed’ by people demanding that she contest the elections from Mumbai.
“I have been virtually mobbed by people demanding that I should fight the election, so here I am” Sawant told reporters on Wednesday.

Sawant will be fighting it to out against Shiv Sena’s Gajanan Kirtikar and Congress’ Gurudas Kamat.
In the recent past, Rakhi had expressed her admiration for BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. She claims that she was offered a BJP ticket from Srirampur in West Bengal, but decided to contest from Mumbai as she hails from the city.
“I was offered a BJP ticket from Srirampur in West Bengal. But I am from Mumbai and known Hindi and Marathi. I don’t know the local language of West Bengal, so why should I stand from there?” she said.
While urging the media and natives of Mumbai to give her a chance, Rakhi said she will be leaving the television and film world for the cause of the people and would take up cudgels for women for dignity and respect in society.
“Please give me one chance and see what I can do”
Dressed in a green outfit and covered up for head-to-toe like never before, Rakhi was seen talking like a politician at an event held to make the announcement.
