Raees Collections on Day 2: Early Estimate

Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees was outstanding for the second consecutive day at the box office, as the film – as per early estimates, has shown growth of around 20-25% on Thursday to take its 2-day total to around the 47 crore mark.

The film continued to outperform Kaabil almost all across the country, with Raees now almost becoming a craze in muslim dominated areas and single screens.  It’s a typical masala film, where the lead star (in this case, a megastar) plays a larger-than-life role. The fact that SRK hasn’t played a role like this in a very long time, seems to be really helping the film at mass centres – Don 2 was in the same space, but was on the classier side and targeted at the multiplex audience. Hence, the impact wasn’t as much as Raees.

The masses are celebrating Shah Rukh Khan after a very long time, reports are coming in that the atmosphere at theatres is almost festive-like. It’s a genre that he hasn’t fully explored in his career, preferring overseas-shot classier films instead. If Raees continues to perform, it’ll probably change his mind and do films that also appeal to the ‘forgotten’ section of the audience (the industry doesn’t do enough films for them anymore).

The advance booking for tomorrow (Friday) is good, with tickets worth 2-3 crore sold in advance, so the film should continue its good run. A total of 15 crore plus on Friday would be extraordinary, while anything below 14-15 crore would be a normal drop for a working day. Anything below 13 crore will be a cause for concern.

Raees is ruling the box office and now has a significant lead over Kaabil. The next few days will give us a clearer picture on whether Raees can continue to hold on to the lead, or the gap narrows down. A 150 crore plus total is SRK need to ensure that Raees is a big success.
