In UK MNIK grossed £2,500,000 while 3 idiots 1,830,000 which was less than kank despite releasing on favorable release time and movie was appreciate one and all. And pk has done £2 mn is not a big deal even chennai express did similar collection despite not so favorable release time. The thing is that you don’t want to accept that srk is more famous in places where there are concentration of Indian population overseas (in other words NRI dominated ones – like UK).
The NRIs loved the sugar coated romance and KJo got a hint of hit with DDLJ, so he churned out movies with similar themes to please these NRIs, and hence srk got a big fan base in those years.
But, you cannot go on forever with this, and even though you fans have not realised, srk himself has realised it. His stardom was decreasing as the NRIs have outgrown of all the melodramic romantic movies and we have a new generation that looked for something else.
With his overseas power reduced and Aamir taking over, while Salman becoming No. 1 in India, he had no choice but to change his strategy.
So, what does he do, he signs up movies with the likes of Rohit Shetty and Farah Khan to churn out movies that cater to peoples need currently – full on entertainers. The result is before you, he has delivered big hits in CE and good business in HNY.
He was on top, no doubts on it, but those days have gone. He is doing his best, to salvage whatever is possible now, but the fact of the matter is, the dynamics of cinema has changed with Aamir and Salman taking over.
Will he reinvent himself again? I have no doubts, because he is srk, and has survived industry for more than 20 years, regardless of whether, me, a one in a billion Indian, like him or not.
