About a week ago, when Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 was performing well at the box office, the release of Dharma Productions’ Shaandaar was expected to end the glorious run of a film that didn’t have any face-value. The only factor in favour of the Luv Ranjan film was that it was a sequel to a film that gained popularity with the youth, even after its theatrical run – through DVD and television. In fact, for such films, even piracy can make a difference as people who watch pirated copies might end up watching the sequel in theatres!
On the other hand, a film like Shaandaar had every factor in its favour which included the presence of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, backed by a banner like Dharma Productions, directed by Vikas Bahl and a massive holiday release on 2500 screens.
The end result? Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 has decimated Shaandaar at the box office. A film made on less than one-third the budget, will end up collected about 20-25 crore more than Shaandaar.
In fact, the third Friday collections of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is nearly 3-4 times more than Shaandaar’s second Friday collections. Pretty much sums up the disastrous response to Shaandaar and the outstanding performance of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2.
Meanwhile, Karthik Aaryan’s is a star. He has started receiving bigger offers post the success of PKP2. Except to see a lot more of him in the next few years.
Check out the day-wise comparison between the two films. Apart from Day 1 and Day 4, both of which were national holidays for Shaandaar and working days for PKP2, the latter has been the bigger film on every single day at the box office.

Its nice to see a film with better content pulling in the bigger numbers
@Jhalla
I chose the right example. HNY opening 45 cr and ended with 178. ROFL.
Talaash opened with 13 cr(same as Shaandaar) and ended at 95 which happed bcoz of good to very good WOM whereas Shandaar opened same but ended with 42 cr. only.
HNY lifetime = 4 times its opening day
Talaash lifetime= 7.4 times its opening day
Shandaar lifetime = 3.5 times its opening day.
So, I gave the right example.
Bhai dimag nahi hai, toh kyun argue karte ho?
it again shows that content always beats star power. hirani will always beat srk if he does a low content film example hny.
im a fan of srk but really now a days srk is a big fool. i mean less popular stars like aamir/salman are beating him consistently at bo with help of content(bb/pk).
shame on srk for choosing movies like hny. srk come up with a content driven movie & show that why you are called as kingkhan you fool.
@sallubhai Shahid copies Srk acting style idiot plz go and consult doctor u badly need it or may be u r a blind.
I seriously can’t understadn some people for making shity except kismat konnection which was directed by Srk’s close friend aziz mirza there is not a single film where u find any resembles between Shahid and Srk’s acting still some morons say he copies Srk then get a life idiot he is not copying anyone and he is very much real and his own actor and if his movies flops it’s cause the movie was bad not because he copied anyone so when his movies brcoems hit or flop it’s cause of his movie selection so stop saying shity things even those media who used to say Shahid copying Srk in kismat konnecion have stopped saying this accepting Shahid as his own actor but looks like still some people have not moved or they just don’t want to see the fact and keep making such shitty coments.
