About a week ago, when Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 was performing well at the box office, the release of Dharma Productions’ Shaandaar was expected to end the glorious run of a film that didn’t have any face-value. The only factor in favour of the Luv Ranjan film was that it was a sequel to a film that gained popularity with the youth, even after its theatrical run – through DVD and television. In fact, for such films, even piracy can make a difference as people who watch pirated copies might end up watching the sequel in theatres!
On the other hand, a film like Shaandaar had every factor in its favour which included the presence of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, backed by a banner like Dharma Productions, directed by Vikas Bahl and a massive holiday release on 2500 screens.
The end result? Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 has decimated Shaandaar at the box office. A film made on less than one-third the budget, will end up collected about 20-25 crore more than Shaandaar.
In fact, the third Friday collections of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is nearly 3-4 times more than Shaandaar’s second Friday collections. Pretty much sums up the disastrous response to Shaandaar and the outstanding performance of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2.
Meanwhile, Karthik Aaryan’s is a star. He has started receiving bigger offers post the success of PKP2. Except to see a lot more of him in the next few years.
Check out the day-wise comparison between the two films. Apart from Day 1 and Day 4, both of which were national holidays for Shaandaar and working days for PKP2, the latter has been the bigger film on every single day at the box office.

PKP 2 has outstanding business . After this movie it is easy to say this movie has become a Bankable Franchise . This also shows the flop performance of Shaandaar . It has become the Biggest Hit of October 2015 and in terms of collections after SIB . This year Small movies have surprised big time and this is a positive sign as more movies will be successful . Kartik is a brilliant actor . Apart from Comedy he should try doing different genres . He played a romantic guy in Akaash Vani and his dialogue delivery is superb . I expect to see him in more movies in the future . Also expecting more movies from Luv Ranjan .

Shaandar is a Disaster film
Sad for Shahid! In any film that he acted in his own style, it clicked at the BO, eg. Vivaaah, JWM, Kaminey, Haider, Raj Kumar etc….
Whenever he copied the overacting hamming sarook, the film flopped…
@Gautam Fr. Tamachaa makers will regret as PRDP will have a glorious run until the releases of BM & Dholwaale.. it will decimate Tamachaa like PKP2 did to Shaandaar. PKP2 was released earlier than Shaandaar. Same for PRDP.
pkp2 will be have Happy run till the release prdp and end with collecting 60cr. lifetime HUGE PROFIT whereas shaandar will end with around 41-42cr. lifetime HUGE LOSS as it is trending distiously in it’s second weekend which shows that always content wins over star power
