Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has recorded the second highest opening day collections of all time, as the film has collected approx Rs 41.75 crore net including collections from regional versions.
The official figures for the Hindi version is Rs 40.35 crore.
The much-hyped Sooraj R Barjatya film has failed to beat the all-time record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year, which collected Rs 42.62 crore in Hindi and Rs 44.97 crore including collections from Tamil (0.92 cr) and Telugu (1.43 cr) versions.
Considering the genre of the film, the collections of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are outstanding. Very few family dramas in the last few years have performed well at the box office and none of them have taken a record-breaking start. We have to go back to Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012, which released a day before the Diwali holiday and did reasonably good business.

Hey guys, how do you know that these figures are not manipulated. Word has it that PRDP fell short of 40cr, many sources are quoting 38-39cr, maybe they used manipulation to pull it through to the 40cr’s, as anything less would generate negativity around the content, for the widest release ever.
