Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has recorded the second highest opening day collections of all time, as the film has collected approx Rs 41.75 crore net including collections from regional versions.
The official figures for the Hindi version is Rs 40.35 crore.
The much-hyped Sooraj R Barjatya film has failed to beat the all-time record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year, which collected Rs 42.62 crore in Hindi and Rs 44.97 crore including collections from Tamil (0.92 cr) and Telugu (1.43 cr) versions.
Considering the genre of the film, the collections of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are outstanding. Very few family dramas in the last few years have performed well at the box office and none of them have taken a record-breaking start. We have to go back to Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012, which released a day before the Diwali holiday and did reasonably good business.

guys,just check the same attitude of srk when srk said in hny trailer “kismat bohot kutti cheese hai saali kabhi bhi palat jati hai” & now in dilwale “15 saal 4 mahine 10 din”. The last dialogue of dilwale seems to have a twist. Can we expect a twist in the car flying shetty’s film? Sorry guys,dilwale looks like the 2nd part of hny with babulal doing the comedy of abhishek. Hope i am wrong & dilwale gets success.6 min trailers made the film lengthy. Those who watch it with us in inox were happy because it was not happy new year type of film. Yes one or two brother-sister scenes were a bit slow. I think audience understand that this fault should be forgiven for such a beautiful family film. Those who would not forgive are either salman haters or incapable of appreciating such an entertaining great film. If they think that rohit shetty will give them an entertaining film,i have something to say. Yes ce was an entertaining(i think not great) film. But depika’s comedy,expressions,acting made it entertaining. Though kajol is a great actress, she wont be able to make dilwale funny. Srk & varun dont seem to do comedy as salman & akki did in mujse shadi karogi. For adhaar card banayoon & mein pregnant & babulal & srk’s one greatest romantic song with kajol will make it just one-time watch(unlike hny).

These are awesome collections. Congrats to Salman fans. And they should have enuf courage to accept the fact that PRDP couldnt beat HNY collections. The genre made the difference. Had the movie been a masala movie like Dabang or ETT then it surely would have crossed HNY. They should respect the official figures of HNY and should not act as cry babies. They should be proud of Salman and these awesome box office collections.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo smashed all opening day box office records as it grossed 39 crore nett on day one beating the previous record of Happy New Year by around 2.75 crore nett. The film hit new opening day records in Mumbai, Delhi / UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI, Bihar and Assam. There was an Telugu and Tamil version of the film but that did not do well with collections of less than 1 crore nett.
