Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has recorded the second highest opening day collections of all time, as the film has collected approx Rs 41.75 crore net including collections from regional versions.
The official figures for the Hindi version is Rs 40.35 crore.
The much-hyped Sooraj R Barjatya film has failed to beat the all-time record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year, which collected Rs 42.62 crore in Hindi and Rs 44.97 crore including collections from Tamil (0.92 cr) and Telugu (1.43 cr) versions.
Considering the genre of the film, the collections of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are outstanding. Very few family dramas in the last few years have performed well at the box office and none of them have taken a record-breaking start. We have to go back to Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012, which released a day before the Diwali holiday and did reasonably good business.

According to Box Office India , PRDP closed day
one with box office receipts in the region of Rs
40 crores nett. This makes it the biggest first
day in Bollywood history beating Shah Rukh
Khan’s Happy New Year which was last year’s
Diwali offering. It’s also the biggest single day of
all time, edging past the first Sunday figures of
Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK which were about Rs
38.50 crores nett.
I’m a big srk fan, but trust me this movie is no where close to bajrangi bhaijan….i really think sooraj who launched Salman wants to make money by considering the current superstardom of Salman Khan…. That’s it… The movie is so bad… Even families are not liking it frankly… You will know the truth from Monday collections…. No one will dare to go and watch this second time…. That’s a fact.

There no manipulation in collections unlike hny. Record opening for totaly family drama movie , it was just unheared. Truly astonishing… Soon i will watch this movie.. Fantastic.

hats off to Salman and his producers for not manipulating the figures. Easily they could have declared the producers numbers as 45 cr…and all the media would have started jumping that it has created a record. You are a true superstar, not like some so called fake kings…who will manipulate and say it has broken the previous record by .25 lakhs…like CE…got 33.25 to beat Ekthatiger 33 crores. HNY collected 175+ as per BOI, producer says 210+ or so. Now this 44 crore 1st day…next Dilwale you will see again the manipulation will start.

I am trying to find indicine’ old article where indicine accepted that HNY official figures were manipulated. My respect for Salman has gone up twice because BB and PRDP both official and trade figures are same. HNY except for producers not even a single trade analysist who follow their on sources agreed to it. We Salman fans are not embarrassed at all but PROUD as hell on Salman and it is not finished at all, extended week 1 of PRDP is going to be more than HNY lifetime.
