Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has recorded the second highest single day collections in the history of the Hindi film industry. The collections are only below the more commercial ‘Happy New Year’ which released on the same holiday, on fewer screens, last year.
Some points:
- Out of the Top 25 highest single day collections, Salman Khan dominates with his films finding a mention 10 times.
- SRK and Aamir Khan have managed to make it to the Top 25, 6 times each. Followed by Hrithik Roshan – 3 times and Ajay Devgn – once.
- Salman has made it to the list on four non-holidays, which is the highest for any actor.
- Hrithik Roshan is the only actor to find a mention in the Top 25 during a clash. Haider released on the same day.
- The oldest film in the list is the first day collections of Ek Tha Tiger (2012).

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had the highest opening day of
all time and became the sixth film to go over 30 crore
nett. It is the second film to go over 35 crore nett but
the 40 crore nett mark is still proving to be elusive.
The figures of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will not even go
to 40 crore nett with the Tamil and Telugu versions
added as collections of these are very poor.
The highest non holiday opening is Dhoom 3 and in the
top ten, Dhoom 3, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK and Kick are
all non holiday openings with Dhoom 3 being the only
non holiday film to breach 30 crore nett. The first film
to break the 20 crore nett mark was Bodyguard in 2011
with 21 crore nett plus so the benchmark has almost
doubled in four years.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will need to gross another 62.50
crore nett plus over the next two days to beat the
Bajrangi Bhaijaan all time weekend record of 101.50

Can you tell me what is the meaning of “more commercial” in this context ?? No doubt on your knowledge as you are running such a successful website, but how can you compare PRDP and HNY together? Not because throughout the time , you and your readers called HNY as CRAP but because, both are poles apart when it comes to genre.
If you are saying that HNY had more masala (which no doubt suits the youth), it also lacked the content which attracts the family audiences. It has action scenes and item numbers which families generally don’t prefer.
On the other hand, the biggest attraction of PRDP was the man himself “Sooraj” whose name is enough to bring the family audiences in huge chunk to the theatres . Also, it released on more number of screens as compared to HNY, still its crawling to cross the opening day figures of HNY.
So just to please a particular fan base, don’t do negative reporting please.
Salman Khan is the real superstar in real life and cinema. No doubt about it.

PRDP faced in with three big films Akhil which collected 9 crs on opening day, vedalam ajith thala starrer collected 28 crs in two days and kamal haasan starrer movie otherwise PRDP 50+ was written…. one thin, in chennai (tamil nadu) there is very heavy rain and fear of storm which is causing bad collections.
Challenge for srk to beat Bang Bang’s opening day Record…. Clash with classy Haider. Dilwale will get more screen than bang bang and Bajirao Mastani have not got appreciation like Haider. In Bangalore, there was a 24 hours of power outage , so Multiplex owners refused PRDP shows.
