Players has opened to a poor response at the Indian box-office. The film started slow on Friday and showed no jump in business on Saturday. On Sunday collections picked up considerably, but even that was too-little-too-late for a film made on a budget of around 65 crores!
Out of the 65 odd crores, the producers have recovered about 53 crores (see below). The remaining amount has to be recovered from overseas collections.
- All India rights sold for : 33 crores
- Satellite rights: 15 crores
- Other rights (music etc): 5 crores
With the way Players has opened in India and overseas, both the producers as well as the India-distributors are likely to suffer huge losses.
To break-even, the Abhishek Bachchan – Sonam Kapoor starrer has to collect a minimum of 70 crores nett in India and about 20 crores overseas. Both figures are highly unlikely – with the slow start, hardly any jump in collections over the weekend and mixed word-of-mouth, it’s unlikely to cross 40 crores nett in India.
What remains to be seen is, if Players will hold-on during the weekdays. With no major releases before Agneepath on 26th January, the film has more than 2 weeks to recover as much as it possibly can!
Verdict (barring miracles) – FLOP
wt is future of abhi after amitabh just lyk fardeen khan!!!!
Hard Truth is there is a formula in Bollywood for failure and Abhishek Bachchan is apart of the flop formula.
Any film with Abhishek Bachchan automatically has a negative, hate him or love him – this is a FACT.
And looks do matter, one has to be reasonably attractive and plausible as a hero. Do you see Nana Patekar being a hero? Do you see Paresh Rawal being a hero? No. It is simply not plausible, people have rejected Abhishek Bachchan as a hero – learn your god damn lesson!
