PK vs Bajrangi Bhaijaan: Box Office Collection Comparison

Note: This article is updated everyday. Read the ‘Update’ section just above the table for daily updates.

Salman Khan’s latest release ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ has taken a historic opening at the box office. The first 4-day collections has ensured that the Kabir Khan directed film is almost certain to go past Salman’s previous highest grosser ‘KICK’ (233 crore).

All eyes are now on the Top 2 highest grossers of Indian Cinema. Both Aamir Khan starrers, Dhoom 3 and PK.

The current comparison is between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. In 4 days, PK had collected Rs 116.43 crore and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is way ahead with net box office collections of Rs 129.65 crores.

However, PK had no holidays in its first 4 days (except Sunday), but Bajrangi Bhaijaan had the advantage of Eid holiday on Saturday and Monday too was a holiday in some parts of the country as Eid celebrations continued.

PK, on the other hand, had plenty of holidays starting with Christmas (7th day of release) and New Year. The days in between were holidays for many schools and offices. PK also had the advantage of 3 open weeks at the box office, before the release of Tevar in Week 4. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has two open weeks, after which Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam and Ritesh Deshmukh’s Bangistan are scheduled to hit screens.

The multiplex ticket prices of both films were about the same, although at select premium multiplexes the tickets of Bajrangi Bhaijaan were more expensive. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has performed much better than PK at single-screens, so the all India average ticket price of the Salman starrer is lower.

The day-wise comparison between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be interesting to follow in the next few days. We will be updating this page everyday. Bookmark it and visit us again to find out if Bajrangi Bhaijaan can become the highest grosser of all time.

Update 22 July: Bajrangi Bhaijaan continues to lead PK at the end of Day 5. While the Salman starrer has collected Rs 151.05 crore in 5 days, the industry’s highest grosser had collected Rs 135.79 crore. In fact, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has beaten PK on each of its first 5 days at the box office.

Update 23 July: For the first time since its release, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has fallen short of the Wednesday collections of Aamir Khan’s PK. The Rajkumar Hirani directed film held on strongly on Wednesday, showed a small growth in business on Thursday and then had plenty of holidays (Christmas, Sunday, New Year) in Week 2. Those holidays could eventually be the difference, even though Bajrangi Bhaijaan still leads PK by around Rs 14 crore at the end of Day 6.

Update 24 July: The battle for the highest grosser of all time is now intensifying as there is hardly any difference between Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK at the end of Week 1. To Salman and Kabir Khan’s credit, PK enjoyed a national holiday for Christmas on Day 7 of its release. But factors aside, Bajrangi Bhaijaan was leading by Rs 15 crore at the end of 5 days, but now the difference is just Rs 1.76 crore. PK is also the film that showed better trends in its first week at the box office. Bajrangi Bhaijaan now needs a record breaking second weekend to have any chance of becoming the all time highest grosser.

PK vs Bajrangi Bhaijaan has also become the most viewed page on our website this year. The tremendous interest is because Salman has never delivered the highest grosser of all time after ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and the last time he featured in a film directed by Kabir Khan (Ek Tha Tiger), it fell just 3 crore short of ‘3 Idiots’, which was coincidentally an Aamir Khan – Rajkumar Hirani film!

Update 25 July: The difference between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is down to just Rs 36 lakhs! After Day 8, PK still had one holiday (New Year), one open week before the release of ‘Tevar’ and showed better trends. So it’s probably safe to say now that PK will remain the highest grosser of all time and Bajrangi Bhaijaan would be looking at becoming only the second 300 crore grosser.

Update 26 July: Box office is unpredictable and how! Until yesterday, the trends were suggesting that Bajrangi Bhaijaan would fall behind the total of PK, but the Saturday collections of the Salman Khan starrer has shocked and surprised the trade once again! The film is now certain to break the record of Dhoom 3 and could do so by the end of its 2nd week itself. But the record of PK is now in danger of being surpassed. At the end of 9 days, Bajrangi Bhaijaan leads PK by Rs 3.29 crore and this lead will neutralise the ‘New Year’ holiday advantage that PK got. The battle for the highest grosser of all time continues!

Update 27 July: Bajrangi Bhaijaan is on course to become the highest grosser of all time, as the film continues to stay ahead of PK at the end of Day 10 at the domestic box office. The Kabir Khan directed film is already Salman’s highest grosser both at the domestic, overseas and worldwide box office. It has also surpassed the lifetime worldwide gross of Chennai Express. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now the 3rd highest worldwide grosser of all time behind Dhoom 3 and Chennai Express.

Update 29 July: At the end of Day 12, PK had collected Rs 256 crore and Bajrangi Bhaijaan has collected 259.15 crore. The difference is down to Rs 3.15 crore, with the Salman Khan starrer still leading. However, PK’s business got a major boost because of New Year and it wasn’t competing against any film in its 3rd week. Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be up against Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam, a film that is carrying incredible pre-release reports. The third weekend collections of Bajrangi Bhaijaan will decide if the film has a chance of surpassing PK.

Update 30 July: The gap has closed again. The difference between PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now down to Rs 1.2 crore. The Salman Khan starrer is now leading, but not by much. Drishyam releases in theatres tomorrow and Bajrangi Bhaijaan with about 50-55% fewer shows at multiplexes, would have to show huge growth over the weekend to have any chance of getting close to the lifetime total of PK. The growth on Saturday has to be similar to what the film showed on its last Saturday.

Update 1 August: The PK record is now out of reach for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. At the end of Day 15, the difference between the two films is Rs 8.99 crore. PK had already gone past the record of Dhoom 3 and showed incredible growth in its third weekend. In fact, the Sunday collections was more than Rs 11 crore. Bajrangi Bhaijaan will finish with net box office collections of around 320 – 325 crore.

  • so now 2nd collection of both the movies are come in same range.bb 2 week collection is about 275cr.main problem is drishyam which will take the screen from bb.but 300cr possible

  • I want this movie to enter 300cr in trade not in official collection.which is hardly 5 cr differ for bb lyftime.but for hny 1st day is 7cr differ.

  • this movie bb is bigger better and blockbuster of all time bollywood. BB better then bahubali…i love Salman bhai

  • Both the films are different and we shouldn’t compare them. PK is all about fun and gives us some meaningful social messages and BB teaches us humanity, unconditional love, immense faith in almighty and respect shown to different religions. It’s larger than life in true sense and touches all our hearts. Both the films are real treat to watch and belong to different league of Indian Cinema all together. We should be thankful to both the directors of BB and PK to give us the opportunity to watch such wonderful movies of all time. Instead of comparing, if we can understand the real meaning of both the films and can apply them in our lives, we will be considered then as good human beings and contribute something towards the society and mankind. May God Bless us all….

  • I am Aamir Khan biggest fan. But truly if BB breaks any records of PK, I will be the most happiest person. Records are made for broken.
If a good film break good film’ record its good thing.
And BB deserves all the credits. Salman Khan performance made this film so special. He never acted like this before. Hope Salman has realised his acting skills.
for me first half is 3* and 2nd half is 5*= 4/5*

  • “Salman has never given highest grosser of all time since hum aap ke hai kaun” according to indicine, but srk gave his one and only highest grosser of all time for the first time in 2013 which held the record only for 4 months….p?

  • PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan both films are very good having messaging scripts, good acting, lots of fun, emotional scense, etc.
Nothing matter, who will top grosser. Matter is that who will win audience’s mind.
    Best luck salman…

  • Still too early to say BB become highest grosser of all time as Drishyam is also coming next week. So, huge dip in collections.
    My prediction: 310-315 crores.
    Worldwide : 555 crores.

  • BB will breaks all recourd
but pk is the best movie
    pk’s record can’t break BB
i wish to pk that no movie will broke the recourds

  • its Very difficult to chosse the best hero among king khan, salman n amir.but they are supereb. They are special in their roles. Noone can play their role like. Although pk film is the best. But for me bb n pk ,both are best. Cause, in pk amir act against god n he won, but in bb salman act according the rule of god n he has also won. the best film among the 2 is ………………………pk n bb.……………

  • PK was rock steady on tue n wed so BB needs to hold on here as its lead is just about enough to negate the New Year holiday factor of PKs thursday.

  • Best movie till now….. I hope it breaks pk record….hatts off to u bhai…..#respect..when pk was released no other movie was running but #bajrangi bhaijaan was released #bahubali was also running… Still going super hit…#respectBB

  • I love bajhrangi bhaijan movie very very very much..when i see the movie realy i am cry a lot, salman i am a biggest biggest biggest fan of yours..i wish this will be bigegst record 500 Cr

  • Salman khan doesn’t have to go nude like Aamir khan did in PK to prove himself.. His action speaks louder than words

He is the greatest actor in Indian Cinema today.. The figures prove it to

  • @Sean you fool don’t even know the meaning of versatility that’s why you are blabbering bullshit here. Aamir has proved himself way back in 1990s that he is the best actor ever after legend Big B. So just shut your crap nonsense and enjoy the success of BB. Aamir is still the best actor in Bollywood and biggest superstar globally.
