PK Monday Box Office Collection Update

UPDATE 11PM: With collections pouring in from various centres, PK was rock-steady at the box office on Monday. As we reported in the noon, Monday business is more than 18 crore. Multiplexes have sustained very well, even though most were running to packed-houses on Friday. Some single-screens were better than Friday, which suggests that the word-of-mouth is extraordinary even at centres where the film didn’t open well. A few exhibitors have also reported that PK has excellent repeat-value, with people returning back to watch the film again. The 4th day business of PK is likely to be around the 20 crore mark, taking the total to 115 crore net.

PK is proving to be unstoppable both at the domestic and overseas box office. The film has sustained well on Monday and it should put up terrific numbers for the 4th day in a row.

At almost every big multiplex, the occupancy is significantly higher than both Happy New Year and Kick.

We spoke to leading film exhibitor and distributor, Akshaye Rathi, about the Monday trend of the film. Here’s what he had to say.

“PK is sustaining fabulously on Monday. A and B centres are phenomenal, while C centres are on the lower side. I expect the film to collect more than 18 crore today. Occupancy at cities like Nagpur is terrific. The film is doing well at single-screens too, 12PM show was packed to capacity on working weekday!” he says.

When asked about the long term prospects of the Rajkumar Hirani film, Akshaye says “PK should do Rs 250 crore in India, bare minimum. On the higher side, anything is possible. It has plenty of holidays in the next few days, schools and colleges will be shut for Christmas and New Year too”

It remains to be seen if the film can cross the 20 crore mark on Monday. Currently, the highest non-holiday Monday record is held by Dhoom 3 (Rs 21.71 cr). If PK can get anywhere close to that figure, it would have a great chance to become the first film to Rs 300 crore.
