Akshay Kumar has become only the 16th Hindi film actor to win the National Award. Only 23 performances in Hindi films have won the National Award for Best Actor. Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has won the most number of awards for his performance in films like Agneepath, Black, Paa and Piku.
Sanjeev Kumar, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah and Ajay Devgn are the only actors to win 2 awards each.
The iconic trio of Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan have never won a National Award. Shah Rukh was the leading contender in 2003, but his performance in Swades was overlooked and Saif Ali Khan’s performance in Hum Tum was declared the winner.
Hrithik Roshan too was expected to win the National Award for his incredible act in Koi Mil Gaya, but Tamil actor Vikram won the award that year for his film Pithamagan.

I dont consider my self as a film critics or dont have much knowledge about acting..but can guarantee say that SRK in swades was way more betr dn saif in hum tum or srk and amir were more desrving this year as well..how can some one overlooked performances in film like CDI, LAGAN,RDB , GUZARISH KOI MIL GAYA AND wven mnik…so its confirmed khan trio will never get national award ..but real love is from croud and they are getting that.

I my personal fav is Aamir Khan for Dangal, he made me cry when I saw him in the song Naina. Acted so natural as a heartbroken father.
Akshay in Rustom was amazing, one of the best but not the best in 2016 but on the other hand I feel is getting a National Award? is not a joke like Filmfare. It’s a complete internal process and lot of ppl are involved in the decision. So, as some as claiming, just because Priyadarshan was involved in the process doesn’t mean, everyone else in the jury were fools or dogs under his control that they gave away this prestigious award to Akshay without any second thought. Whatever decision has been taken should be respected.
