My Name Is Khan Box Office Prediction

These predictions are real hard to get right, simply because box office is very unpredictably and a lot depends on the merits of a film. But a film like My Name Is Khan, irrespective of how it turns out to be, is likely to open to huge numbers. The first weekend will no doubt be record breaking, both overseas and India.

Here is our prediction for the year’s most awaited release – My Name Is Khan directed by Karan Johar starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol!

  • Opening weekend – 30 crores minimum, could even be as high as 38 – 40 crores including paid previews.
  • Week 1 (if loved): 60 crores plus, could easily beat Ghajini.
  • Week 1 (if mixed): 55 – 60 crores
  • Week 1 (if disliked): 50 – 53 crores
  • Lifetime (if loved): 110 – 120 crores. The repeat value is unlikely to be as high as 3 Idiots.
  • Lifetime (if mixed): 100 – 110 crores.
  • Lifetime (if disliked): 75 – 80 crores

Overseas, the film is likely to beat the record of 3 Idiots even if the reactions are mixed, mainly due to the wide release and the SRK – Karan – Kajol fan-following. $20 million plus is a possibility if the film is loved.

Indian box office numbers will be more interesting though, here are some reasons why

  • Aamir Khan currently holds the record for two of the biggest money spinners ever – Ghajini and 3 Idiots. While MNIK is not expected to break the records set by 3 Idiots, it will be interesting to see if the film can beat the 15 month old Ghajini in India.
  • Can MNIK beat the opening weekend record of 3 Idiots?
  • Can MNIK beat the opening week record of Ghajini or even 3 Idiots?

Do tune into Indicine. We’ll keep you updated on My Name Is Khan.

I am a fan of Amir and Sallu Bhai….but I watch SRK’s film most times
One question is MNIK going to be a hit or are we just speculating because of SRK nad Kajol? Honest answer please…..would really like to know.

  • Nauman, no more discussion on your site here. Please stay on topic, no site allows promoting other sites, we have been lenient and that’s only because you one of the older members here :) But your clearly crossing limits with some of your comments, yes talking about the comparisons.

Regarding music downloads, according to us, its illegal and we do not care what others think. Because of the piracy on the internet the music industry is suffering huge losses, the music composers don’t earn enough.. there is a lot to it.

A request to anyone who is reading this, buy music at least those that you think deserve the price of the CD. It ain’t priced as high now. The sad part is, not many are even aware of the prices.

  • FOr AKKI fans

Treatment done, Akki is back to Dangerous action

The day after Akshay landed in Mumbai after his back treatment he was doing some of the most dangerous stunts affordable to a star.

Before he left for his back treatment Akshay Kumar was unsure if he could ever return to normal health-related activities that he liked, let alone action sequences. In fact Vipul Shah’s action-laden climax for Action Replay which was to be shot after Akshay’s return, was seriously jeopardized.

But after the hydro- therapy that he underwent in Germany last week, Akshay Kumar returned to work, more confident than ever before, ready and eager to shoot heart-stopping stunts for Action Replay. When Vipul offered to change the climax Akshay laughed and told him to change his plans to change.

Not only was Akshay seen hanging from cables doing and flying through the air, he even cajoled his co-star Kirron Kher to get try the aerial stunts.

Speaking from Manori where director Vipul Shah shot Akshay’s action sequences with action direct Allan Amin immediately after the actor’s return from Germany the director confided, “It’s true we were very unsure about what shape Akshay’s back would be in once he returned from his hydro treatment.

The climax of Action Replay required very complex and strenuous stunts on wire-cables. I offered to change the climax and do away with the cable stunts. After all those are tough even for actors with normal healthy backs. Akshay told me to wait until his return before taking a final call.”

The actor’s recovery post his treatment has been far more quick and complete than imagined.

Vipul just can’t stop gawking at the actor’s recovery level. “Why just me? The entire cast including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and others just can’t believe Akshay’s capacity to bounce back on his feet.

Here we were thinking of doing away the cable stunts and somehow managing the climactic action without the planned aerial shots. But Akshay has been wired and suspended midair for almost a week now.

Cable stunts are really tough on the back. But Akshay was super-confident on his return.”
Akshay was so kicked by the idea of starting afresh on his newly-repaired back that he even encouraged Kirron Kher to join him on the cables in Manori.

Says Vipul, “A shot required her to join Akshay in the air. Kirronji was at first hesitant. But we ensured her it was fully safe to be suspended with cables.

Akshay is so charged and enthusiastic he will soon have the whole cast and crew on cables. We are shooting funny action sequences. But hanging midair from thousands of feet is as dangerous whether done for fun or otherwise.”

Akshay who sounded discernibly pained before his restorative trip to Germany is no raring to go. “I’m back on my feet and doing action scenes for Vipul’s film. The treatment worked fully and I am completely recovered.”

Apparently Akshay has recommended the hydro-treatment to Sunny Deol who suffers a chronic back problem and has undergone to major surgeries to repaid his back. For Akshay surgery was never an option, even when his back had given a decade back and he was laid up for six months.

  • STRIKER Review
Starring: Siddharth, Aditya Pancholi, Padmapriya,Vidya Malvade, Ankur Vikal and Anupam Kher

    Director: Chandan Arora

    Rating: ***

Its December 1992 and curfew time in Malvani, Mumbai’s north western suburb when Suryakant Sarang aka Surya (Siddharth) arrives back in Mumbai from an out of town trip. Communal riots have broken out in the area mostly dominated by Muslims.

Surya is stopped by the police, headed by local in charge Faroukh (Anupam Kher). But Surya is restless after he comes to know his family members have fallen prey to the riots.

From hereon the narrative alternates between the flash back and current scenario mode.

It narrates the tale of how Surya, a lower middle class boy, the youngest of the three siblings rises to become an ace carrom champion in the carrom betting syndicate headed by spearheaded by Jalil (Pancholi).
Surya and Jalil keep crossing paths as Jalil desperately wants him to play under him. But Surya nurses a childhood grudge against him. Making matters more complicated is Surya’s childhood buddy Zaid (Ankur) who is working under Zaid.

Editor turned director Chandan Arora (Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hun, Main, Meri Patni Aur Who) has always narrated character based tales and this time with through the eyes of an extremely well written central character he has showcased a never before exposed on Indian screen, the betting underbelly.

The carrom game sequences are fantastically shot what with real carrom champs used. Making them more entertaining is the sledging running commentary by the bystanders.

Vijay Maurya and Pankaj Saraswat’s dialogues are sufficiently spicy. The camerawork enhances the edgy mood of the film. Sound design is excellent too.

Songs are not lip synced and don’t act as speed breakers but carry the story forward. In fact even Siddharth has sung a song in the film.
Siddharth is nothing short of excellent in the film. Exhibiting a cute boyish charm he is very real and vulnerable at the same time. His splendid carrom playing skills are in full display in the film.

Aditya Pancholi with amazing screen presence exudes scare whenever he appears on screen. Ankur Vikal is perfectly cast as Siddharth’s druggie best friend.

Vidya Malvade gets few scenes but she manages to leave an impression. Playing a fisherwoman running the local dingy bar, newcomer Padmapriya resembling Tabu is wonderful and is extremely expressive.

Anup Soni, Anupam Kher and Seema Biswas are good as usual. Nicolette as Siddharth’s first crush is good too.

Chandan Arora’s Striker works for the fact that it actually narrates a never seen before story as also for its authentic setting and excellent acting. Do not give it a miss.

  • Advance booking par sirf police hi police hai . Shivsena creates lots of damages today at cinema halls in Maharashtra . I would say one thing stay away from cinema hall in maharashtra .

  • Just like to add that Dipen Sen has added a part to the article from the Times of India, it does not warn people to stay away from cinemas, the lengths that salman khan fans will go to to try an undermine another actos film makes me sick. If you love Salman that much then why discredit other actors? All that says to me is that you are insecure about Salmans box office power and therefore feel you must bring down other actors, im not even an SRK fan and im saying this.

    Here is the unaltered article
