Mohenjo Daro has posted shockingly low numbers on its opening day at the box office. The first day collections are lower than much smaller films like Udta Punjab and Baaghi.
The Friday numbers have pretty much decided the box office fate of the film. It would need growth of 40-50% on Saturday to have any chance of recovering costs, but even that looks unlikely now as the film has shown drops at a few single-screen centres and multiplex business in the morning was at around the same level as Friday.
It’s difficult to see where the film goes from here. With such low opening numbers, only a miracle can save it from becoming one of the biggest disappointments of Hrithik Roshan’s career.
Clash or not, there was simply no interest amongst the audience to watch Mohenjo Daro on the big screen. Films like Bombay Velvet, Mohenjo Daro and to a certain extent even FAN – prove that irrespective of how big a star is, they are not bigger than the films they appear in. If the choice of films isn’t good enough and the promos are unexciting, the audience can even reject a film from the makers of ‘Jodhaa Akbar’.
Will Mohenjo Daro beat the 63 crore total of the 8-year-old Jodhaa Akbar, which was banned in 3 major states? Even that remains uncertain at the moment.

@Tiger, a lot of people have forgotten a lot of movies from the 2000s too. The point was, no star is bigger than the film. Choice of films is still very important, irrespective of star power. Those were only recent examples.
Problem with this movie is h.r. He took 60% of budget as his fees. So producers were left with only 40 cr n they were unable to match bahubali movie special effects. Had he gone for profit sharing the producers would have spent 100 cr on movie itself n output would have been a masterpiece

You have pointed out very correctly indicine that movies like MJD(a usual lovestory set in pre-historical times) or Bombay Velvet(a typical Anurag Kashyap dark film unnecessarily set in the 1960’s) were without anything new to showcase to the viewers, if they had worked hard on the story and better visual experience, perhaps the scenario might have been different.
Of Course Akshay’s choice of movies has become better, but one more thing I’d like to say that Rustom wouldn’t have been able to get this much of hype if it had been released solo, it managed to win the audience’s confidence by the rivetting trailer and kept the quotient high by going ahead with the decision of releasing with a clash, which created curiosity among the audience like Bajirao Mastani did against Dilwale… HR is a good actor but not as all rounder as Akshay, he hasn’t yet done any comedy film but he has the potential to explore any genre, if the story is good he’ll conquer any clash… Akshay has a lot of experience and considered the best after Amir Khan in commercial cinema, And being disciplined he finishes his films fast and gets over any setback if his film doesn’t work (like we saw in the past couple of years, much like 70’s or 80’s when stars did as many as 6 films a year and they produced a variety of work in all of the different genres and if a few films didn’t work their stardom won’t be at stake).
Right now a film a year only suits to Aamir because he is involved in every process right from the scripting to the post production and marketing and he has been successful in giving the audience something new everytime and thus has won audience confidence.
And once he had said that he attributes his sense for the script to his films which failed, which didn’t work, initially he too did a lot of films but then he took his craft seriously after getting involved in production…
So for HR get experience by going more work and remain on screen at least twice a year to win back your admirers, you are surely a gem of an artiste, But out of sight is out of mind…

After some time u said that promo is not that gud n u justified it by saying that even promo of Jodha Akbar was bad n ashutosh movies trailers r always bad but movies turns out to be gud…after this when MohenjoDaro album released u guys said that A R Rahman has give brilliant music,it will certainly help movie to open better but in ur review u said that music is bad n they should have taken a younger music director…. pls stick to one thing dont change ur color after every day, measure every star on same parameters, u measure stardom of each star on different parameters… u r losing ur credibility now

On the kapil sharma show Hrithik said that the original script was about 300 page which appeared very long.So hrithik asked Ditectir to revise it.Then it was revised to 80 page script.
It was good that they made the movie only on 80 pages.
It it was made on that 300 pages then it would have become the disaster of the century.

It is not the stars who are failing but their choice of movies …. the build-up to Mohenjodaro release was pathetic and only some Hrithik die hard fans were hoping against hope for a miracle … i had in comments before and even yesterday written it would be miracle for film to touch 75crs …
This doesn’t take anything from HR … he can bounce back with Kaabil as Sanjay Gupta is nothing but a stylish director and might be able to make a kick ass film with him and will easily annihilate Raees which is old and history now ….
