Superstar Rajnikanth’s Kochadaiyaan has taken the Tamilnadu box office by storm in its first weekend at the box office. Not only did the film perform well in the state of Tamilnadu, but it has also recorded good collections in states like Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The combined of Kochadaiyaan which released in 6 languages on 3000 screens, in 3D and 2D, is Rs 30 crore (gross) according to a press release from Eros International. Since the film has awarded tax-free status (no entertainment tax), the gross collections of the film would be divided between the producers and distributors.

While Eros hasn’t officially released the day-wise break-up of collections, sources say, the film collected Rs 10 cr on Friday (Day 1), Rs 9.25 cr on Saturday (Day 2) and Rs 10.75 cr on Sunday (Day 3).
In Tamilnadu, since no other filmmaker or star dares to clash against a Rajnikanth starrer, Kochadaiyaan had absolutely no competition in the state where the film got a record number of screens and shows. However, Kochadaiyaan had to compete against Hindi release and Hollywood film ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ in other states and Telugu release Manam in Andhra / Nizam.
A source also added that the average occupancy over the weekend was a huge 90+ plus and the city of Chennai had the best opening, by some distance, for any film this year.
Also starring Deepika Padukone as the female lead, Kochaidaiyaan was released in Telugu as Vikramasimha and in Hindi as Kochadaiiyaan.
The response has been equally good in the overseas markets, with Kochadaiyaan minted a huge Rs 12 crore in its first weekend.

Aren’t these collections too low for a big budgeted movie? I wonder if film makers can recover their money by box office collective only.

Itz too way 2 low…… A movie like HEROPANTI starring Newcomers does 21 crores in Ist Weekend,, dat to released in around 2000 screens or may be less … And what Kochadaiyaan earns only 30 crores dat to released in not 3000 screens @ indicine itz way more dan dat,, it is speculated to be released around 5500 screens,, even earning 30 crores in 3000 screens is way 2 less considering it a film starring the biggest star of South Megastar Rajini… with due respect to him and his Team Kochadaiyaan,, i fear dat the Movie is not at all Appreciated
