Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story Review

Now if only the movie would have stayed true to the title, Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story would indeed have been a heartfelt tale. However the trouble lies in the fact that more than just the love story, which indeed has quite a few sweet moments, there is quite some bhaigiri involved as well. That takes audience away from the core subject and in the process the overall fun element gets diluted.

Though the film does take some time to get on it’s own, there are moments shared between the loveable Jayantabhai (Vivek) and PYT Neha Sharma that keeps the spark on. In fact there are many cute episodes in the life of the two neighbours that bring on the smiles and occasionally a chuckle or two as well. Yes, there are distractions in the form of a local don Zakir Hussain and an ex-cop Nasser. However you still let it all go since director Vinnil Markan soon brings back the focus on this ‘luv story’.

This is the reason why despite an ordinary interval point which is also a tad abrupt, you don’t really look away from the film. That actually is the right thing as well since the film does continue throwing a few heartwarming moments here and there. Vivek and Neha getting intimate with each other, Vivek meeting Neha’s father, Vivek holding on an interview for Neha and later Vivek stopping a rookie from turning into a gangster – there are flashes like these which are etched into your mind even after the film is through.

However just when one thought that the film was meeting a romantic culmination, distractions return all over again in the form of the villains. Ok, so the good part is that these villains have nothing to do with the heroine and hence at least one is spared of the oft repeated drama which has been beaten to death in Bollywood films. Still, the entire flow of the narrative does get a little haywire as the film refuses to end, Neha goes off the scene and the penultimate portions turn a lot diluted.

No wonder, one does miss those several interactions that the lovely couple share right through the film whenever they share a frame. Despite the kind of disparity between them, the love story doesn’t seem unbelievable, something that was the case when Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta had come together in Jannat 2. In case of Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story it all works because Vivek gets it perfectly right in the part of a loveable bhai while Neha continues to ensure that the tag of cute-n-sexy is justified against her name.

With focus only on the love story and a lesser duration, Jayantabhai could well have been much more enjoyable. As of now it is a challenge for the film to sustain since the opening hasn’t been much to write home about and strong competition from last and current week releases would further make it a tough road ahead.
