FAN has collected about 10% more than Jai Ho at the domestic box office and the territorial circuit wise breakdown of the two films make for a very interesting comparison. Jai Ho was Salman’s last non-festive release (without the advantage of Eid, Christmas, Diwali) and FAN is Shah Rukh Khan’s first non-festive release since My Name Is Khan in 2010.
While we are not going to get into the release factors of the two films, it’s quite clear from the comparison below that Jai Ho performed very well at mass-centres, while FAN was ahead at multiplexes and centres where niche films do well.
FAN has won 7 circuits, including the big three which include Mumbai, Delhi/UP and East Punjab. It has also done very well in West Bengal and south circuits – Mysore, Andhra, Tamilnadu and Kerala.
Jai Ho due to its genre and Salman’s presence was fantastic in Rajasthan, CI, CP Berar, Assam, Bihar and Orissa.
All factors considered, there is not much to choose between the two on Day 1. The only difference could be the word-of-mouth which comes into effect quicker at places where FAN is doing well – which, if positive, could help the film grow to fantastic numbers during the weekend, or bring down the film if it doesn’t find appreciation.

Also World of Mouth from neutral audience and some Salman fans were not good……..Another reason was Super success of Dhoom 3…….Many people cannot afford to watch movies twice in one month……….Plus Some politics reason……..
Also Jabra FAn Anthem is way ahead in popularity than all the songs of Jai Ho……….
Ticket price of jai ho was half of Fan. Fan ticket price is more than 1000rs in metros on weekends night show. Salman khan kept the ticket price of Jai ho low. Jai ho footfall was way more than fan

U say dabba fan has collected more than 10% of jai ho’s but u fail to mention the ticket prices of the both , by some vague calculation the average ticket price of jai ho was at least 30-35% lower than what it is for dabba fan today !
And in this article u say dabba fan is a non-holiday release but in the previous article u clearly mentioned that it is a ‘partial holiday’ release , so technically it should never be considered as a non-holiday release.

After watching the trailer of dabba fan some srk fans were making statements like “this is a content oriented movie , srk will win national award & Oscar for his acting , it will be the highest non holiday grosser ” Lol :D

But Jai Ho had complete non holiday.

Positive WOM, partial holiday on first day, Srk back in his comfort zone, Yrf bannerand most importantly hiked ticket rates. Despite of all these things weekend will be less than Bhai’s 2 year old film.
I ain’t trying to make any kind of comparison here but you said that it would have done a business of Rs16 cr if it was not released on a partial holiday.Obviously with higher ticket price and 3500screens in India.Movies like Fan,Drishyam,Talaash,Airlift fall in the thriller genre but Talaash was dark and noirish and it still collected 14crs from around 2600 screens back in 2012.So genre is one of the factor on which the opening depends.Just saying because fans of all other actors try their level best to troll Aamir for a niche film like Talaash.Now what’s your take on this?
And for your kind information, Talaash was a hit in India and it has an IMdB rating of 7.3 from 24k votes.Not a bad movie for sure. :)
You have to compare apple with apple and not apple with orange. Jai ho is 2 years 4 months old movie and a non festive release. Fan is current & partial festive release.

Jai Ho released more than 2 years ago so Fan has the advantage of higher ticket rates as well as a partial holiday.
Jai Ho should’ve been a blockbuster but the audience unfortunately didn’t understand the message of the movie.
