Irrfan Khan, arguably the most renowned Indian actor globally, has won the Best Actor award at the Asian Film Awards, more commonly known as the Oscars of the East.
Khan was nominated for his performance in ‘The Lunchbox’ alongside Masaharu Fukuyama for ‘Like Father Like Son’ (Japan), Lee Kang-sheng for Stray Dogs France (Taiwan), Tony Leung Chiu-Wai for The Grandmaster (Hong Kong/China) and Song Kang-ho for The Attorney (South Korea).

Talking to the media soon after winning the prestigious award, Irrfan said “It’s a great honour to be nominated alongside an actor like Tony Leung Chiu-Wai and winning”
‘The Lunchbox’ was also nominated in two other categories, for ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Screenwriter’. While it lost out to ‘The Grandmaster’ in the Best Film category, Ritesh Batra the director/writer of ‘The Lunchbox’ was awarded the ‘Best Screenwriter’ award.
The Asian Film Awards 2014 was held on the 27th of March 2014 at Macau.
