There were two films releases last weekend. One film had arguably the biggest star cast of 2015 in a genre that was expected to hold universal appeal. The other was expected to take a slow start and perform well in a couple of states if the word-of-mouth was nothing less than excellent.
Not a single trade analyst gave Bajirao Mastani a chance. Even in the worst case scenario, Dilwale was expected to lead. After all, the audience tend to like entertainers. Like we mentioned in one of our articles, Dilwale had a team that never failed (read). The director has given several blockbusters, the lead star is arguably the biggest the industry has ever produced and his pairing with Kajol is evergreen. The younger star, Varun Dhawan, had taken giant strides in the last couple of years.
But the box office game is unpredictable and a great leveller. Every star, big or small, has to go through this test every time his / her film releases. For someone like Shah Rukh Khan – who we firmly believe is beyond box office numbers, for the simple reason that he has achieved everything (and more) in the industry – it is still a test. He is the face of films like Dilwale and the responsibility of ensuring that the investors of his films recover their investment and earn profits, is on his shoulders.
The responsibility further increased with a film like ‘Dilwale’ because his company turned distributors and is now adopting a semi-studio model by both producing and distributing their films. Territories were also sold for exorbitant prices because the film was expected to collect no less than Rs 200 crore and recovery for individual distributors might prove to be tough if the film doesn’t sustain in the long run.
On the other hand, we have a film that was written off by everyone in trade, including us. It’s that very film that could eventually win the battle and topple the all mighty against all odds.
We are going with a very bold prediction for both Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale. We expect the Shah Rukh Khan starrer to finish below the 150 crore mark at the domestic box office and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani to cross the 165 crore in India.

When we just hear that SRK doing a new movie our exitment starts. But after waiting 1 year we find a backwas movie. Why SRK? .From 2010 to 2015 we find only one nice movie that is ‘My name is khan. Yes, like other trade experts and Bollywood websites, even I had never expected that Dilwale will lag behind BM. Still I have hopes that it will eventually pass the collections of BM by end of its run, but as a die-hard SRK fan, I am really disappointed with what is happening.
Still, questioning SRK’s stardom is utter foolishness. I will come with a detailed analysis once both the movies end their Run at box-office.

Dilwale is 10times better than HNY but it faced more negetivity due to low openning n weekned. But what i beleive from holidays DILWALE rocks
negetive publicity on social media affect dilwale very badly.
I think the fact that Salman Khan does two films a year gives him an edge. If one disappoints, the other makes up for it, which helps keep his reputation. Whereas SRK does one film a year and if that too disappoints, it affects his standing harder than what it would arriving with two movies.
MB mastani will never cross more than dilwale if so then i will never watch any hindi movie in my life . and the first thing is due to political protest it effects and the screens are same . my predection is Dilwale 160 and MB 145
Someone rightly said ” Dilwale is facing a competition from BM in India and star wars in overseas”.
This is enough to show the global acceptability who is fighting with a critically acclaimed movie, his own country men, few so called “nationalists” in his own country and a successful movie like star wars in overseas, yet he is standing like a warrior in mid way.
SRK sir, I adored you and followed you like a blind so for me, no matter how much your movies collect. My respect won’t reduce even for 1%.

Its an ok prediction.
But as the trends prediction for Dilwale is max. It in no case will go beyond 145Cr.
And for BM it Minimum. It will definitely collect at-least 170Cr. Even more if week 2 and 3 are good.
Also its good to see Historical films doing good. It will give confidence to these makers to make more such good films on history. This year Bahubali and Bajirao. Next year lone historical film is Mohenjo-Daro which already is most awaited film of 2016 even on indicine conducted poll. If it gets a solo release it is really going to storm box-office. With Ashutosh-HR combo nothing short of Epic is expected.
