I Box Office Collections: Vikram – Shankar film

The Hindi version of Vikram starrer ‘I’ has collected Rs 2.1 crore on its opening day at the domestic box office (including paid previews on Thursday). The film has done well in the Mumbai circuit, especially in Mumbai city where the response was the best ever for a dubbed south Indian film.

In South Indian states like Karnataka and Kerala, the Tamil version of the film has collected more than the Hindi version. In the state of Andhra Pradesh, I opened to a phenomenal response on Wednesday (Pongal release) but business started to dip on Friday.

In Kerala, Shankar’s I has set box office records on both Day 1 and Day 2. Tamilnadu was outstanding too, but there are reports of the film not meeting the high pre-release expectations. As per reliable trade sources, I has collected around Rs 27 crore (gross) in its first 3 days in Tamilnadu. In Kerala, the 3-day business is around Rs 7.4 crore (gross).

  • @gaurav Just afew films to spend your sunday watching n enjoying…

Definitely watch Shawshank Redemption (friendship n hope- awesome acting by Freeman in so many scenes), Last of the Mohicans (Daniel Day Lewis- say no more as this guy is probably the best or top 3 actors of all Time behind Brando according to some n super selective of the roles he does- true perfectionist), Se7en (Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Sacey were amazing in it), Usual Suspects (Spacey in the climax was mindblowing super good) and Primal Fear (Edward Nortons debut and a superb performance with Richard Gere lending a good hand)

Or alternatively watch any Edward Norton, Denzel Washington or Daniel Day Lewis (training day is a must watch) movie and you cant go wrong…. Di Caprios movies are stil hugely underrated but dont think he does bad films…!

90s were a good decade for hollywood movies whereas last decade too many franchises n sequels came n ruined the party IMO

  • @Navin

Thanks for such a long list of films. I dont watch lot of Hollywood films. But I will surely note down the movies which you listed. Freeman is my favorite as well. I will take out some more time to watch the whole list of movies given by so many readers. Keen on watching Shawshank Redemption particularly. I will have some free time in April, I will make sure, I watch at least 4 to 5 movies during that interval. Thanks!

  • vijay and ajith r the biggest super stars of south…But vikram and kamal hasan r the real perfectionist….they can do any type of role.. shanker’s I one of the beautiful movie…

  • what shankar is giving since last ten years its not like that
OK its a good movie, very good acting but something is missing

    Shankar last movies like
    Nayak
    Shivaji
    Robot

everystep he is taking ahead but with this movie he is look like a normal director

  • Just came back seeing ‘I’. What a terrific film! what way to start this year in a BANG.

Shankar yet again proves why he is the Best Director from Kollywood and one of the Best
story-tellers of recent times across all Indian Cinema.

‘I’ is primarily a love story where a BODY Builder, who is a die-hard fan of a leading Model whom he likes in the first sight itself. He later gets into the Modelling Industry because of her and then how his detractors who are jealous of his success punish him and then him taking revenge in the end.

Though, the basic premise is not that thought provoking or that we have not seen this thing like ever, it is how Shankar treats it giving his trademarks and the top-notch performances he extracts!

No words to describe VIKRAM, he lives the Character and is Magnificent! He is the only actor apart from Kamal Haasan or Aamir Khan who would go to an altogether different level to prepare for such a character. He makes you cry, laugh and love and makes you feel for him in the climax portions. This guy deserves NATIONAL AWARD for a heart-wrenching performance. His dedication, hard-work can be seen in the movie.

Final: The movie might not be Perfect nor might not be Shankar’s best film so far, it definitely for me is in one of his Top5 films. Vikram’s best performance till date or you could say Best Performance by a leading actor in recent times (along with Aamir in PK). Should definitely be watched in theaters atleast for Vikram’s hard work and his sheer dedication for a role!

    Positives:
    1. Vikram Vikram Vikram
    2. AR Rahman’s eclectic Score
    3. Cinematography
    4. Amy and Vikram’s super hot chemistry with Amy looking her hottest ever and standing equally to Vikram.

    Negatives:
    1. Not that great compared to Shankar’s previous ventures like Robot, Sivaji, Anniyan etc.
    2. Predictable
    3. Length is a big minus. If there was a trimming of around 20-25 minutes, this could have been one of the best romantic-thrillers ever to come from INDIA.

I advise you guys, all the peeps who are into Hindi Cinema, to give ‘I’ a try. You won’t be disappointed. Vikram will make you feel for him. Watch it!

    Rating – 4/5
