Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 3 has surpassed the first weekend collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN to record the highest first weekend collections of 2016. The film was extraordinary on Sunday, with net box office collections of Rs 21.80 crore.
While FAN had limited appeal towards audiences at smaller centres, the SRK starrer had an additional advantage of a partial holiday on its opening day. On the other hand, Housefull 3 belonged to a popular franchise and released during the favourable ‘Post IPL’ period.
Akshay Kumar now has two films in the Top 3. Clearly, 2016 is shaping up to be a good year for him.

Good, but even welcome back had shown huge gains over its first weekend, and HF3 monday is also looking in same range as WB, i.e in 7.5-8 cr range. Won’t be surprised if indicine’s LBO turns out accurate. 110 cr /- 2 cr, that’s my prediction.

Not snatching any credit from Akki or housefull Team, but one should also notice while making such comparisons that audience didn’t have any choice this weekend. So if they plan an outing, eventually they will end up watching housefull as there are no other movies in cinemas as of now.
On the other hand, people had The jungle book as an option alongside FAN , and if you go and see my comment on FAN review article, I had mentioned there that many people flocked around to watch TJB because of its strong WOM and they preferred to give FAN a miss.
But still, 22 CR is a big number and Akki and Team deserves the applaud. Great to see, his movies churning 20cr+ on a single day.

@indicine with all your propaganda and backing for Hrithik Mohenjo Daro does that have to be at the expense of Akshay?! look how the makers of MD are behaving, they wait untill the release of housefull 3 after all the initial negatives from some of the media (reporting low first day figure of H3) then they decided to release the trailer of Mohenjo Daro in the coming days. But what they forget is you don’t need to bring someone down to succeed. I will like to see a good movie in the form of Mohenjo Daro but if they think they can should do that by trolling Akshay then they in for a shock! Btw for Akshay the year is already fantastic. Some said srk’s fan had no song(if u say so),some said it was niche…ok a film titled fan with lots of action n chase sequences dedicated to fans…with a great trailer…also a big banner like yrf at helm…a partial holiday..never helped a big opening…. but…a movie with a bad music album and a really avg trailer…and dull promos no buzz whatsoever…never affected a movie but a franchise only shud allow it to open it huge although the opening was not bad either…decent it was but also some so called superstars dont dare to release their movies for a year or 2 and even more at tyms but this guy releases a movie every 3-4 months or so but still the consistency doesnt matters…and some so called duniya ka sabse bada superstar tried to release a movie after a gap of 4 months and we know the result…but it was a songless movie guys dont forget it…#jabra
