Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty has collected Rs 40 crore in its first weekend, with fantastic growth in business on Sunday. Apart from Special 26 (which did well at select screens), no other Akshay Kumar film in recent times have fared well at high-end multiplexes, but Holiday had fantastic growth both at single-screens and multiplexes on Sunday.
Holiday could well be the first film in recent times, for which the official figures for Saturday were actually lower than our estimates! While the film was down at mass-centres on Saturday, but multiplexes witnessed significant growth.
On Sunday, the film was up all over and early estimates from around 35 screens suggests that Holiday has collected around 15-16 crore on Friday. Actuals will be updated at around 5PM.
Can the film cross the 100 crore mark, giving Akshay Kumar, who had a poor 2013, the perfect start for 2014? Looking at the trends, it should. The first weekend business of Holiday is about 3 crore higher than 2 States, which crossed the 100 crore mark, so if the A.R Murugadoss film trends as well as 2 States, it should not only cross the 100 crore mark, but it could also go on to be the highest grosser of the year and Akshay’s 2nd highest career grosser.
Having said that, the next 4 days will be absolutely crucial for the film, if it has to recover its high costs from theatrical business. Holiday, sold for an exorbitant price considering the box office performance of Akshay’s last few releases, will have to collect at least 90-95 crore to emerge a hit.

disappointed with the collection as filmy fan it should have 75 cr weekend …anyways from now it should have to cross 150cr .because 2014 has no big movie till half yr passed and no 130cr plus movie its bad sign for us .
I saw this film 3 times in theatre and don’t get bored for a minute also (except songs it should have been better)

Monday morning and afternoon occupancy trend suggests that collection will drop only 30-35% from friday.so 30% of 12cr will give a 8cr monday
If holiday had starred a srk.hrithik.amir or ranbir it would hv definitely collected 25cr on friday bcz they knw hownto market their films and multiplex audiences blindly trust their films
