Aamir Khan’s Dangal has taken the second spot in the final list of highest opening day collections of 2016. However, like 2015, Salman once again tops the list and the gap between him and the rest is growing - as far as the sheer pan-India box office pull on the opening day is concerned.
When it comes to footfalls, from the theatre samples we have at the moment, Sultan sold around 35% more tickets than Dangal on Day 1. This is due to higher ticket prices and the fact that multiplexes are performing better for Dangal, while Sultan had the advantage of partial holiday for Eid along with the film being more commercial and hence appealing to a wider section of the audience.
This year, no film has managed to take a ‘record-breaking’ opening. Sultan is the only film to take a ‘bumper’ start, followed by films like Dangal, MS Dhoni The Untold Story, Rustom, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Baaghi – all of which took ‘Excellent’ starts.
The biggest disappointments this year were Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro and Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay.

Saw Dangal. What an outstanding movie. Hats off Mr Aamir Khan. But box office wise it still got some constraints.

As per reports, interiors of the country are not upto the mark……..it is in these areas that demonetisation would have effected the most……
My guess is that the opening would have around the 32 cr mark had there been no effect of demonetisation…….
30 crores is excellent considering the genre and demonitization effect.
If a movie like fan collected 20 crore on day 1 then 30 crore for a movie like dangal during Christmas is not very good !! But yeah he was SRK and this is aamir so cant expect 40 crore from him
This is tight slap on face of those morons who were used to say that Aamir is nothing without Hirani and Dhoom Brand. look morons Dangal has collected 30 crore on a non holiday …. “As a matter of fact, the start of Dangal is almost comparable to that of Sultan since latter had arrived just around Eid and there was no impact on the Salman Khan starrer due to demonetization either. In case of Dangal, one can claim that around 10% [3 crore] has definitely been lost due to a good chunk of ‘aam junta’ still struggling with cash issues”. it means if demonetization issue was not there, Dangal collection would have been 33 to 34 crore which is bumper for a non holiday film even better than Sultan. if agree then like my comment..

Dangal opening is bumper bro,i am not Amir khan fan,but 30 cr opening opening with normal friday,without commercial values is bumper only,please dont try to undervalue the opening of Dangal,dont look at the footfall,look at collection,by looking at footfall shiyaay was much bigger opener than ADHM & others.so please stick to some principle & i watched Dangal yesterday,its classic,but not that much the way critics & celebrities are exaggerating of it.
One can never give an atbb with an offbeat movie unless its AAMIR ACE KHAN everyone can give blockbuster with masala movie but real superstardom is to give big hits without masala genre like lagaan rang de basanti taare zameen par 3 idiots pk and Dangal

As expected aamir delivers best performance, his hard work of 2 years is clearly visible. Supporting actors have also done their job fabulously.
But I would like to specially mention girls playing role of geeta and babita they have given justice to the role, perfectly blending with the character surely they have given their best.
As a salman fan i want sultan to remain hgoty but aamir is not just known for breaking records but also for creating.
So all the best to aamir and team dangal for record’s and thank you for such a wonderful experience.
Just give Raees a solo release and watch.. no sultan no one can beat.. remember Hapoy New year 2 yrs back? Raees is 101% is Kaabil of doing that..

Amazing collections despite regular Friday,demonetization issue,no well known supporting cast,Rural background and not so commercial movie.critically acclaimed movies toh fan,neeraja,pink,airlift etc bhi thi but aisi opening toh kisi bhi movies ki nhi thi.it really proves aamir is in his own league.

@Manoj, makes no sense. Our prediction has nothing to do with opening response that a film gets. For Bumper opening, morning shows have to record very high occupancy Sultan was way ahead of Dangal in the morning, at every centre across India.

Remember Bajrangi Bhaijaan opened on a normal Friday, yes it was Ramzan but next day was Eid holiday so multiplex business peaked one First Day evening and night shows…..Thus in effect it was a normal Friday…..
Similarly Dangal has also released on a normal Friday and collections are more than BB inspite of demonetisation effect…..
Yes, Salman is the biggest star currently but the point that I’m trying to make is that its the film which opens and not only the star or starpower……..Audiences are smart and interest is developed on the basis of promos etc
