The festive weekends of Bollywood, which includes Eid, Diwali and Christmas, are by far the most lucrative period for film releases.
Some points:
- No film that has released outside the three major holiday periods has crossed the 200 crore mark.
- The Top 10 grossers of all time (without adjusting inflation) all belong to festive releases.
- The highest grosser belongs to Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which released back in 2013. Since then, only two films – Bang Bang and Tanu Weds Manu Returns – have crossed the 150 crore mark.
- The Khans (Salman, SRK, Aamir) have dominated Eid, Diwali, Christmas. In the last 6 years, Salman had two non-festive releases Ready (120 cr) and Jai Ho (112 cr). Aamir had only one release Talaash (93 cr) and Shah Rukh also has only one FAN (85 cr). So even the Khan films, apart from Ready, have been under-performers when they releases their films outside the festive period. In fact, the worldwide gross of all four of their non-festive films is lower than the worldwide gross of just one film PK.
- Akshay Kumar leads with four films, followed by Ajay Devgn with three.

Plus, Akki used to release his films on EDX as well. They are Khans who make them lucrative festive releases for films.

SRK should immediately sign Masti 4, that’s the only way he can enter into any list, otherwise even Vivek Oberoi will become a bigger star than him.
Akki is not consistent on giving hits. He gives flops during both festive and non-festive seasons. Similarly, he gives hits in both periods. Not consistent.
They are Khans who are super consistent on giving BBs during festive seasons. That is why trade prefers them. You can’t deny it.
In the recent years, Salman had two non festive releases: Ready (BB) and Jai Ho (Semi Hit).
But Akki has given many flops in his non-festive releases in thoses years although he managed to give a few hits.
That doesn’t make him any king of non festive releases either.
He is just a superstar with a good fan following interiors and giving hits and flops on and off.
Akshay has the highest number of films. Khiladi rocks

A number of good quality movies in that list.
If I have to choose only one of them (which will be a difficult task as so many fine movies there) I will choose “Barfi”. Exceptional movie with exceptional acting by lead actors. A movie least expected to cross 100 cr but it did.
With no disrespect to other fine movies like BMB, TWMR, Airlift etc.

All his films are big commercial movies,tell him to do a movie like Airlift,Baby,fan etc.
Neither he’ll get appreciation for his character,as he’s a terrible one nor he’ll get collections.
EDX is the biggest superstar I think…
Those who get the EDX release preferably EiD and Xmas.
SRK got Eid in 2013 and gave a blockbuster which is a bigger blockbuster than any salman films except bajrangi in terms of footfalls even though it had so much competition in successive weeks.
Even Dilwale would have crossed 200 without a clash.

Thanks Indicine I was waiting for this article for a long time . EDX is the biggest factor for giving Blockbusters and record breaking collections . Doing 100 CR on Non Holiday is still a huge achievement as SRK and Aamir are yet to do this even though Aamir is on 1st position and SRK is on 3rd position . If movies have Content plus EDX than the verdict becomes an ATBB and HGOTY . I am happy to see Bang Bang ! doing 181 CR on Gandhi Jayanti in 2014 and also clashing with Haider . Many people thinks BB is a festival release but the impact of Eid, Diwali and Xmas is much bigger than any other festival . EDX festivals are not celebrated for one or two days but at least for one week and this is the biggest reason why even with bad WOM – TMK, Ra.One, HNY, Dilwale and PRDP became successful . Mohenjo Daro and H3 have the ability to do 100 CR+ as Akshay is dominating the list with 4 and Hrithik with 2 . TJB has beaten the collections of BB and now becomes the 2nd Highest Non Holiday Grosser . So now the list is as follows :
