Many of our readers have been asking for this comparison, so here we go. A comparison between the last ‘non-festive’ release of the three Khans – Aamir’s Talaash (2012), Salman’s Jai Ho (2014) and Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN that has just released last weekend.
None of the three movies have fared well at the box office, highlighting the importance of Eid, Diwali and Christmas for the Khans.
Now that they’ve crossed 50, for the Khans to sustain their super-stardom and prolong their careers in the industry, two things will be very important – films with good content and the most crucial thing could be to get the big festive weekends. Because it’s only during these weekends when the big 250 – 300 grossers come.
Aamir currently has a stronghold over Christmas, Salman has made the Eid weekend his own and the two are currently dominating the industry with major 300 crore grossers.
Shah Rukh has slipped in India with Dilwale and FAN. But it’ll be a matter of one film that strikes gold at the box office. A universal success like Bajrangi Bhaijaan or PK is what he needs and it has to come quickly.
Interestingly, while Aamir and Salman’s career has been filled with ups and downs, the feeling of not dominating the industry is something that’s new for Shah Rukh. More so after FAN, because the gap between him and the Top 2 in India has widened.
So it’ll be interesting to see how he handles it. The big question will be, if he can climb the ladder to the top again. Especially at the domestic (India) box office, because overseas Shah Rukh is still the biggest crowd puller.

Only Salman & Remake factors were in JH favor rest all negative still highest weekend. FAN earned more than Jai Ho on opening but if you take inflation of ticket prices and gap for 2.3 years this should be equal or less of Jai Ho opening, I am sure FAN is not gonna reach first week collections neither lifetime collections in India !!!!!!! This clearly shows who is bigger among two Khans, Salman’s worst is ahead of Srk’s one of the best !!!!!!!!!
Masala film has always an upper hand on off beat films.Even Dilwale was rejected by audience and critics but still it did 140cr with clash.Because there is still huge population who like mindless masala movies. Dilwale faced a clash,released with lesser screens than FAN,received very bad critic ratings as compared to FAN, there wasnt anything special in srk performance in Dilwale, audience thumbed down for dilwale ,dilwale could not take advantage of holidays because of 18 december release and till 25th negative wom reached everywhere.So those comparing JAI HO was talash & FAN are fools.

Fan is cult classic? really? Who decided that?
Cult classic is something that is not decided on the first weekend of a movie……..but over the years when you have a set of regular (neutral) fans who follow it up with repeated watching and discussions on the same……that is spread / panned over a number of years.
Every film that not performs at box office doesn’t automatically qualify for “cult classic” status….lolz….that’s a wishful thinking of fanatics.
Also, just because srk did a good act doesn’t mean the movie becomes a “hatke” or “cult classic”
Further, Fan is not an complete off-beat film as you guys and the makers are trying to make it. It has all the entertainment value. The only difference being it didn’t had any songs. But they made a song for promo and released in almost every Indian language. Now, how come that becomes different?
According to you guys Jabra song is a classic, and if it is so, then it would surely have attracted thousands, if not, millions, to the theatre,,,,,,,because again, as per your logic songs do add to collections…..and no song is being given as an excuse for Fan’s dismal collection…..which is infact again untrue.
So, if you guys have liked the movie, just accept it and move on, and don’t fill pages with being a “cult classic” and blah blah…….leave it to the neutral crowds over the years to decide on that.
I wouldn’t say much on comparisions of Jai Ho or Fan……….Jai Ho is not off-beat, though a bit different, it was pure and utter rubbish made by a wannabe director, who just happens to be related to the movie’s bigger star…!!!! It collected 110 cr plus only on star power.
Talaash compared to both, is completely an off-beat topic movie….and the collection is purely because of Aamir.
The same goes for Fan, the dismal collection, not withstanding, it is only due to YRF and Srk that collections are atleast decent for now……though it doesn’t look like it will sustain in weekdays.
If we take the above, stardom wise in the country, it is Salman, Aamir and Srk….to be in that order…..closely followed by Akshay, and then Hrithik, because Hrithik i doubt will ever match Akki’s ability of doing 4 films a year and yet collect close to or just above 100 cr every movie. He is in a league of his own……..!!!!

Though in recent time i used to be a silent visiter on indicine but this is indeed a interesting comparison between three khans films. For me if i have to pick one movie who performed best among these three than it should be Talaash all the way. The only advantage talaash had was Aamir first commercial film since 3I and the multi heroine factor.
But the major disadvantage are.
1. Postponed the movie from Jun 2012 to end of Nov 2012. Aamir due to SMJ changed the release of his film from most lucrative period i.e. post ipl to worst release period i.e. late Nov 2012. They also release teaser earlier in jan 2012 than changed the release date which somehow lost the interest among neutral audiences.
2. The concept of thriller was looking promising from promos but the climax which shows Kareena as a ghost disappointed many and the suspense was leaked from the very first day of its release in social media which are the most target audience for this movie
3. But apart these two the biggest drawback was release time, the film release after 2 weeks of JTHJ & SOS whom combine net india boxoffice was close to 200cr, plus from second week it had a mass entertainer K786 which had probably best recevied music album and than 3 weeks before Massy Dabangg2. The last week of november is such a bad time to release a film that despite being 3 years talaash lifetime of 93 cr is biggest success of that particular week as movies like bullet raja,happy ending and Tamasha were way behind than Talaash figure.
Among these three without a doubt Jai ho had the safest release period, it came after 5 weeks of Dhoom3, Salman comeback after 1 year and a remake with social message in it but it was poorly received film from critics among these three. But Salman strong hold in mass circuit helped film to cross 100 cr at boxoffice
I haven’ seen Fan yet, but it was quite evident from promos that film would probably fail to find it audience from non-srk fans though Srk promised to give one of his remarkable performance in the film from trailer. The 19cr opening was terrific with this genre movie that also with just 4 month gap. But the loopholes in script stopped it rake moolah among boxoffice.
Whatever the pros and cons the thing is clear that all these three collected 25-30cr less in there lifetime figure as per minimum expectation of fans and trade.

More 219 to be the first and only actor to hit the 3000 Cr mark!

Comming back to FAN 52 cr Weekend for a movie with such genre would be considered excellent numbers for any actor.But for SRK its an average performer.
Ever Amir Khan returning after 3Idiot with some supreme actress gave only 44cr opening weekend for thriller.
But SRK coming after Dilwale with no actress gave 52cr weekend.

First of all the budget of Jai ho is not 110 cr, secondly it ddin’t released on 4000 screens as Dhoom 3 released a month ago and it was a festive release with 3800 screens so jai ho can’t get a bigger release size than Dhoom 3 and third official collections of jai ho is 116 cr..

A movie like hny released in China and may I know what crowd it pulled? Well you would know better because after awarding 4 stars you were over the moon with your articles after you knew that it was releasing in 500 screens. But when the collections started appearing, unsurprisingly there wasn’t those many articles, if there were any. LOL.
So accept the fact that Aamir is the biggest crowd puller in the overseas now.
@Nawaab, China is not a traditional market. Just one or two films a year release in China. In traditional markets where most films release, SRK is the biggest crowd puller.
Out of these three films, only Talaash showed growth on Saturday. It is the only movie which had a big competition in it’s second week (k786). Not trying to justify its underperformance.
Both Talaash and Jai ho didn’t have any holidays/partial holidays in it’s first two days.
