Many of our readers have been asking for this comparison, so here we go. A comparison between the last ‘non-festive’ release of the three Khans – Aamir’s Talaash (2012), Salman’s Jai Ho (2014) and Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN that has just released last weekend.
None of the three movies have fared well at the box office, highlighting the importance of Eid, Diwali and Christmas for the Khans.
Now that they’ve crossed 50, for the Khans to sustain their super-stardom and prolong their careers in the industry, two things will be very important – films with good content and the most crucial thing could be to get the big festive weekends. Because it’s only during these weekends when the big 250 – 300 grossers come.
Aamir currently has a stronghold over Christmas, Salman has made the Eid weekend his own and the two are currently dominating the industry with major 300 crore grossers.
Shah Rukh has slipped in India with Dilwale and FAN. But it’ll be a matter of one film that strikes gold at the box office. A universal success like Bajrangi Bhaijaan or PK is what he needs and it has to come quickly.
Interestingly, while Aamir and Salman’s career has been filled with ups and downs, the feeling of not dominating the industry is something that’s new for Shah Rukh. More so after FAN, because the gap between him and the Top 2 in India has widened.
So it’ll be interesting to see how he handles it. The big question will be, if he can climb the ladder to the top again. Especially at the domestic (India) box office, because overseas Shah Rukh is still the biggest crowd puller.

why dnt u include ye jawani hai diwani in it?
there shld be comparision with srk partial holyday fan (a songless thrillers as indicine calls it)
n pre eid non holyday of kick and bajrangi bhaijan.
or u cn compare frst week of world biggest star srk with second week of amirs pk,dhoom 3. or evn 3 idiots
Hmmm interesting comparison.
All of them have performed (more or less) same and none of them can be considered as a “decent” performer.
Also, all of them had few negative and positive sides associated with them, so there is no point of listing them now.
While it’s interesting to see how far FAN will go from here in India, I think , it will surpass the worldwide collections of other two movies.
Talash – Avarage
Jai ho – Flop
Fan will be – Semi hit
Note – Salman is nothing without Did… Fan less Aamir is nothing without x-mas…
#Fasal kerala
Monday collection is missing?
….ROFL try to be neutral #tnkz
No matters he is self made ,,,,,,surely come back looking promising upcoming movies
Top 4 grossers in overseas:
1.PK – Aamir
2.BB -Salman
3.Dhoom 3 – Aamir
4.3 Idiots – Aamir
No self proclaimed king in the top 4.
Also, if we consider the “acceptance” factor, then I believe, Jai Ho had an edge over other two movies.
It had songs/fight sequences and other masala too. Both FAN and Talaash can be considered “dark” in comparison of Jai Ho.
So, SRK’s current film with 4 year old film of Aamir & 2 & 1/2 years old film of Salman. Too much fun.
jungle jungle baat chali hain pata chala hain,
sabse bada superstar kahne wala ki……….. chaddi pehen ke phool khila hai phool khila hai……..

Changing my name a bit due to imposter
Jai Ho did 87 crore in its first WEEK itself.
Lets hope FAN does 87 crore in its LIFETIME.
What a pity on indicine. Trying all things to protect SRK. Started from giving Fan 4 stars to SRK making YRF and now showing this comparison (at first screen count and showing worldwide). All SRK fans are in so shock. Post monday collections Indicine. Y u r delaying. Oh yes! ashamed. coz actual collections are 5.5. crores. all hail Sabse bada superstar. And no one will favour. What SRK gave to salman are finally showing results. Mercy for SRK. Miyanbhai ki daring gayi kahaan. BEGGING!!! no one give you anything
“None of the three movies have fared well at the box office, highlighting the importance of Eid, Diwali and Christmas for the Khans.” Hmm… Yahi asli aukat hai Khano ki. Non-Festive pe lull hai teeno ke teeno. :-D
looking at the screen count, it’s very clear that Talash was most successful among these three !!!
The only problem with Talaash was that it’s suspense was leaked on the net by some butthurt and jealous fans.Otherwise it’s the best film among the three and has maintained it’s good rating on IMDb since a long time. Also the movie was neither promoted with catchy songs like ‘jabra’,nor it was an out n out commercial flick like D3.But it trended better than Fan in the first week itself and better than Jai ho in the third week.Taking into consideration the number of screens, ticket price back in 2012 and non holiday release,a dark and noirish thriller like Talaash just nailed the Box Office.
Power of Mr.Perfectionist and good cinema.
Very good comparison…
why dont u add Hrithik Roshan…too
even he didn’t had festival release expect Krrish3…
They 4 are the real Super Star Of bollywood both Domestic as well World Wide..
If we consider the opening numbers (based on scree count), both Talaash and FAN recorded almost same opening whereas opening of Jai Ho was below par.
Sunday collections of FAN were low as it was competing with “The Jungle Book” and most of the neutral audiences preferred the former over it.
@indicine: you cannot rule out advantage of republic day holiday for Jai ho. had it been a normal Sunday, collection would not have gone over 20 crores.
All the khan records vanish if you erase their E D X releases. Don’t understand why we are so obsessed with box office over the quality of a movie. In Hollywood and even in the south Indian film industry people never care for a festive release. Any big and well made movie is released anytime. I just want to see Akki,Salman,SRK,Amir,Ajay and Hrithik as many times a year as i can.I dont give a damn about box office. These are the stars without whom our childhood would never be what it was.Their time is going to end someday soon and i just wish they did more movies.
@Indicine you mentioned 2 main factors for Khans…movies with good content and big festive weekends…if they need these factors to churn out big grossers what is the difference between them and other stars? Even a star like Ranveer, Varun or Siddharth can make the most out of it if they gets these 2 factors in their favour…isn’t it?
Dilwale WW> JAI HO+TALASH WW Dilwale WW>PRDP Dilwale OS>2*PRDP
Everyone has a bad time.. but it’s also not bad it’s a good niche film.. he sure back with raees
Fan 1st day 5.75cr acc to boi
Now its seems like even 80cr is out of reach
Verdict: Disaster
bullshit after bullshit.. jai ho budget 110 crores? it’s budget is 65 crores.. wat the hell are u trying to prove here indicine? n taking the name of srk with salman n aamir.. u suggest to say salman n aamir will struggle as srk in non festive release.. this is complete bullshit.. yes 250 n 300 cr won’t be possible but 200 cr definitely yes.. remember jai ho was the worst movie of salman with production values n worst wom.. whereas fan is a critically acclaimed movie n still struggling.. the reason is simple.. people aren’t as willing to see a srk movie than they are for salman n aamir.. just to justify srk failure don’t drag salman n aamir into it
@dxt namm, leave our work to us. Jai Ho was sold to Eros for 90 crore + 18-20 crore Print and Advertising. There is a difference between cost of production and landing costs.
Sultan Crossed ten million Views Yesterday..

#Fasal kerala
look at only opening bcoz star power means only opening otherwise fan is totally different from these two both have songs talaash has kareena & Rani other hand jai ho was a masala remake with lots of entertaining songs action etc…. so compare fan with these two is totally unfair still fan lifetime worldwide will be greater than these two
masterpice film fan..power house acting by srk…god of acting srk..great film
At this point, not sure what the audience expects from SRK. There is just too much negativity around him when his movies come out. I don’t know if the release date of the movie has anything to do with it (Exam period, IPL, clash with Jungle Book), or the fact that the indian audience cannot watch a movie without songs, romance, and actresses.
Fan is the next Swades.
